Rappan Athuk Reloaded at DTRPG.COM

Hi guys.

Many of you wont like this answer, but this is the deal with RARE pdf.

I dont expect to sell many of them. And despite Bill's comments, I'm not sure we will see the price drop.

Here is why.

RARE is a LIMITED EDITION product. We want it to be that way. The pdf is meant truly for those who cant get the physical product either through their flgs or because shipping to their home country is too cost prohibitive. I am dedicated to the fans and wanted to make sure that anyone who wanted one had the chance to get one.

But that said, this is a limited edition product. I think it would cheapen the print product if there were cut rate pdfs available out there. The fans who lined up and got the print products deserve my dedications.

So the pdf is how it is so that there is no one who is prevented (by availability or shipping cost) from getting RARE if they want it, while at the same time respecting that this is a limited product and rewarding the fans who ordered one.

This was a limited product. Everyone knew it. You knew how to get one. And the fans that did have been rewarded.

For those who gambled on a cut rate Amazon order and lost out, that was your choice. We didnt hide the ball on that. We told you, come get it, it will go quick, and dont count on Amazon. Same thing with the pdf. It is there as an alternative. But I am not going to undercut the scarcity and the value and the reward for the fans who bellied up and got the print product.

So that is my thinking. I'm not sure people will like it. But please understand that this was a limited edition product from the get go. I think the print product purchasers would feel ripped if all of a sudden we put out cut rate pdfs.

But I promise this: if it seems to me that the pdf purchasing complaints are mostly people who want the pdf who also bought the print product and they just want it in pdf too, then that is a different story. Should that prove to be the case, we'll see...

In any event, enjoy RARE! I just got my copies and man this thing is totally bitchin'!

RA is a flagship product for us that we started when we were brand new at all of this. It is absolutely the way RA deserved to be done. I love it.

That is too bad. I think your totally wrong on this. But it is your decision, so unless Bill convinces you otherwise, guess we'll just have to live with it.

I think the biggest flaw in your reasoning/argument is that you seem to think there is a comparison between the print products value and a pdf. There isn't. That is like thinking a pdf copy of Superman number #1 would sell for $30,000.00. You might get people to buy it for a couple of dollars.

You know I pre-ordered RA:R, so I get this pdf for free as part of the pre-order deal. I think if you don't go with Bill on this, well, I already said I completely disagree with you.

Is that really the case, though? I had thought so, but this made me wonder if I was remembering it correctly:

Or does this mean that those who buy it through their flgs don't get the pdf, while preorders do? I'm a bit confused now... :) (Not really bothered either way, mind you - just really stoked to finally have the beastie in print!)

You get the PDF free if you preordered from White Wolf. AFAIK, if you get it somewhere else, you don't get the PDF for free.

So NG is making the 1,000 people who get it happy and everyone else unhappy. Uh, yeah, that makes good business sense.

I have to say I essentially agree with your view on this.

Yes, only pre-orders get the pdf free. All other buyers do not. I'm not sure about pre-orders done via an LGS. I do believe it had to be through WW. Bill or Clark will have to clear that up.

That would make sense. I don't know, but most likely after you complete your order at the WW site you get the linky for the PDF sent to you.

I haven't recieved it yet, John. I think we should see it soon, since RA:R has now been "officially" released.

It does rock by the way!
Got a copy here at GenCon and I am one pleased fan!

OMG! The Flumph area! Not "push over" creatures anymore!

Plus I like the mechanics that Greg Regland came up with to handle the mazes. Plus any maze type lair.

Cool new stuff!

Sweet redone stuff!

I'd like to know how many people who had faith in Amazon.com lost out. I got mine for $22.04 (with free 2-day shipping, natch). It seemed like most of us who pre-ordered from Amazon.com also got ours before many of those who ordered from WW. It seems to me that it was those who believed you that Amazon.com wouldn't deliver were the ones who lost out. (Similarly, those who don't think that Amazon.com would honor the Ptolus prices and preordered because they didn't think Amazon.com would have it also lost out)

The way to get people to go to you directly is to provide freebies that can't be had. The free pdfs are one great way to reward early preorders.
