but we had to limit this. Its a limited edition folks. At a $32 cost per unit, we make virtually nothing on wholesale orders. Really Clark and I could not care less as long as we break even. Expensive book? yes. Amazon orders? Screw them...I support FLGS. Buy local. Amazon and other discount retailers are killing the local guys..ever play a game at an Amazon store? After WL Box set, I figured we could reasonably sell 1800 copies, but then we have to account for returns. I pay my artists, cartographers, and layout guys first (not everyone does). Then we take whatever is left (usually not much). The risk was huge at 1800 units, so we decided on 1000. I will not ever de-value the 1000 (ok, 960...I comped or kept 40) folks who bought a limited ed copy win. Thats all there is...I said LE, I meant it.

Don't some of the online RPG stores ship overseas? frpgames.com, lonslair.com (check preorder link), How you play the game, Revolution Games, etc.

I suggest you call or email to find out how many they will have available, but it's worth a try.

I choose to use Amazon b/c I find it more reliable, better priced, and more convenient (not to mention I have assurances of refunds if a publisher goes under; something nowhere near as certain with online publishing stores).

What are you talking about on assurance of refunds if a publisher goes under? Stores in USA (I'll state that, since I have no guarentee that other contries have the same laws with regards to credit card use) can't actually charge you without giving you the product. So there is no refund necessary.

And apparently there's a heck of a lot of people out there who agree. To write Amazon out of your business model pretty much assures you of never being more than one or two failed products away from bankruptcy.

Being one or two failed products away from bankruptcy is pretty much the whole industry. Amazon has nothing to do with that part. Although Amazon has nothing to do with helping it either.

I'm not sure what you mean by "can't actually charge you without giving you the product", but many shops do that anyway. Just think of the recent doordice.com thread. Some other well-known online shops without financial troubles do that, too. As I understand it, there's a 30 day window for delivering the product.

But I agree with doubting that $22.04 offer for the RA Reloaded boxed set by amazon. In my experience, they nearly always cancel those obviously incorrectly priced orders after they notice their mistake, even if they get hold of the product. They also make differences between "first class" and budget buyers. As the former, you might have a slim chance of getting the stuff, if they eventually get the product.

I seldom agree with you on a fair amount of things, but I totally agree with you on this.
I buy a fair amount of PDF's since printing them out for me isnt that big of a deal. I have my home data archived / Backed up on about 3 different hard drives so loss of data isnt really a issue. I just printed out my PDF copy of Bard's Gate for use in my Age of Worms game. I was considering buying a PDF copy of Wilderlands Of High Fantasy even though I already have the boxed set, but @ $48 it didnt seem like a good idea. I hope that the RAR PDF comes out at a reasonable price....

Messageboards are not the place to form accurate opinions about other people.

For example, there were 4 posters on ENWorld I thought I would absolutely hate/despise! They were self centered idiots! Then I moved out to CA and played D&D with them. They are real cool and laid back people. Wish they moved to AZ with me. One still might!

(BTW, I'm kidding about the despising, hating, idiots, and self-centered! Just illustrative useage!)

Point is, ENWorld gave me no real clue as to what they were/are really like in person. The reality was a whole lot different than the ENWorld image. For the better!

Hussar, I live in Australia. I haven't personally ordered from FRP Games, but I do know that they do take orders from Australia. If they can send stuff down under they should probably be able to get it to wherever you live. Personally I use Noble Knight Games for my overseas ordering and have done so successfully multiple times. They have not been mentioned in this thread so far so I don't know if they will be getting any copies of RAR though.

As a sort of aside to this thread, I just read on Monte Cook's boards that he sold almost 1,000 pre-order copies of Ptolus through the WW website. These 1,000 copies do not include any pre-orders that may have been made through FLGS or any orders put in by Amazon, Alliance, etc.,

Personally I think that is a pretty good result for a book that costs US$120 plus shipping. If you add in the pre-orders through FLGS and the other distributors I think that you would have over 2,000 copies (just at a guess).

I know that it is just a small number compared to the amount of copies a WotC book would sell but I still think it is a large amount for what is really is a luxury item in a niche market.
