I would like to give it a nice round 8, but for the ending. The ending it self did leave it open for more movies, something I would like to see, however lots of things should.could have been tied up IMO, but I supose if it didn't have the loose ends I would be saying "They could do a sequel", as apposed to saying "Wheres my SEQUEL??".

As could have been feared, Jim Carrey plays his usual role, however he is not a fool or bafoon. No, Count olaf is quite amazing. I really don't have words for him.

This is one of those movies that suffers if you liked the books. And I really did not like Carrie as Count Olaf at all at all, he played the role too much for laughs when he is supposed to be truly menacing. Cramming so much of the first books in the series into the movie also hurt it.

The Auld Grump, who really wanted to like it, and might be a tad bitter because he didn't.

I liked the movie, but mostly because of its visual effects. I loved the scenery and everything it was well done.

I havnt read the books, the movie was based on 3 right?

The girl, she really looks like the next Scarlet Johanson.

any chance I may like this movie? I'm never read or even heard of the books. The commercials may me think this is a "world of wonder" type movie, ala Harry Potter. I've seen the third Potter movie and I didn't care for it.

I really enjoy the books. So I was looking forward to the movie. I even broke one of my rules of never seeing anything with Jim Carrey in it.

The first mistake was cramming so much from the first three books into the movie.

The second was Jim Carrey. Like most of his movies he just takes over, the movies becomes all about him. Not the character he is playing him Jim Carrey. That is how it comes across to me.

These books are about three kids who keep making it through tough times it is really their story. With casting Jim Carrey in so many roles the movie became about his characters placing him the kids in a the roles of secondary characters.

It would be like making a Harry Potter movie and having it all about Dumbledore.

And most reviewers, who (rightfully) panned him, while praising the rest of the movie.

I feel the ending credit animation really should have been used in the begining. [DH] The happy elf opening was alright, but the 'emily the strange' ending credit animation would have been awsome to open with.

[DH]On that subject, I can't be the only one who fealt a strong link to The Dunwich Horror movie's opening animation. So many similarities.

The kids really did not seem sad enough to me. Uncle monte was FAR too competent for his roll compared to the books IIRC, Rick Moronis would have been a more fitting actor for the roll. Carry IMHO fits the over-used, undertallented actor of olaf, though i could have sworn that some his most sinister words and deeds were softened for the movie.
