This is a great module because you really can be almost any level and still have fun playing it. Once you convert it to 3.5 from 1.0, you have to be a bit higher level since everything is DC based, but if you gave it anything under 8 then you don't understand it or prefer hack and slash games. :p

I loved it.

I modified it to run under 3.5 and then used it as the supposed prison of a ghost dragon that the PC's were trying to find and destroy a little more permanently. By the end of the module they were cursing eveything elven, as I made it an elven made prison. And there were two elves in the group! :D

The traps I left pretty much as they were, just setting DC's for a 13th level group. I loved it when the paladin and psionicist tumbled out of the demons mouth naked! The party seemed to have lots of fun and really unleashed during the final encounter which was with a party of elven mummies set to gaurd the prison instead of a demi-lich. That was the only really big change, and it was a tough fight and they almost lost a couple of party members during it so I think the overal tone of a desperate fight after a hair raising life and death romp was maintaned.

Is D&D really fun w/o PC deaths?

I'm giving it a 10 as it is an awesome adventure and still stands apart as being a unique adventure for PCs and DMs.

Hopefully, I'll be running it with my Epic party as it seems that ToH (and RttToH) is an excellent challenge worthy of their level. That being said, someone on here once mentioned that, if played right, a 1st level character could do it all, save destroying Acererak. Likewise, and epic level character is by no means guaranteed success in this enterprise.

For the naysayers out there, yes it is a big, huge death trap. However, it is not undefeatable and any PCs who can make it thru are awesome gamers. (Not that you couldn't be awesome w/o beating it, but beating it definately elevates your level of play.)

Or your ability to meta-game. Or you cheated.

No, its not hard to get through and you don't need to meta game or cheat. THe clues are all porovided for you in one of the rooms, you just have to be careful and not rash.

I dunno. I played it in 1e and died from failure to spot and/or disarm traps.

I'll believe that the boss/final encounter is manageable if you pay attention and think. But the rest of the adventure isn't so much a "thinking" adventure as it is a "get lucky and roll well" adventure.

In hindsight I guess we should just have had a summoner type whip up a batch of kobolds for us or whatever. But that's more of a cattle drive through a dungeon than anything else.

2/10. Sorry Gary. You had your moments, but this wasn't one of them.
