1) Absolutely not. Purists will probably be happy pretending that this is just a spooky haunted castle rather than an attempt to recreate the classic adventure. It's very combat-focused, with all of the roleplaying elements (that I saw) involving smack-talk between rounds. That said, it's also a cooperative game, so you're generally helping the other players rather than laughing at them. I should point out that I only played one of more than a dozen scenarios in the box (ours involved tracking down and fighting a dracolich), so some may involve more RP than this one, but I kind of doubt it. It's not really a roleplaying game.
2) TONS of minis. There's a Strahd mini, about 5 or 6 player character minis, TONS of undead stuff like flaming skeletons, ghouls, some rat swarms, a huge dracolich, and what I'm guessing was an undead white dragon. The minis are one of maybe five base colors (including clear). Other than the PCs all being one color, the rest of the minis seem to be grouped in colors as well (I'm not sure the rhyme or reason to this, though I suspect there is one--most of the undead stuff was white, for example). There are some "clear" minis in the set. 42 minis in all. All of them are repurposed from earlier D&D Minis sets, though I understand that a few came from cancelled sets and have not been seen before.
Despite the fact that the minis are unpainted, I think they represent more than $65 of value, and when combined with tiles that are quite versatile (despite not being able to recreate the original maps) the game is worth it even without the game itself, which was really fun.
