Ravenloft is being folded into the core setting for 4E (Domains of Dread)

October will also see the Domains of Dread return to D&D, with the long-time Ravenloft concept being folded into the core now. Meanwhile we’ll also be trying out a new rules concept that allows you to multiclass into classes that don’t really exist, like gladiator. I should probably stop now before R&D gets forbidden from feeding me previews.

I am hedging my bets on Ravenloft as a part of the Shadowfell.

Ravenloft in the Shadowfell? I hope not....

Interesting news. I hope you're wrong about Ravenloft being just a part of the Shadowfell, though. Part of its appeal was its isolation from everything else in the D&D cosmology--the separation from everything familiar, "safe", and helpful (like one's gods, for example). On the other hand, I can see the Raven Queen setting up a prison for things that seriously endanger reality and fate...maybe somewhere in the Far Realm (or maybe it is a portion of the Far Realm--an alien realm of madness needn't be all slime and tentacles, after all).

You've gotta admit, Ravenloft's got "points of light" down pat.

This. I don't know what the plans are for Ravenloft's domains in 4E--I knew it was coming in Dragon, but with this announcement, you all now officially know as much as I do--but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see the domains introduced simply as just that: domains. Small kingdoms/realms of horror that can go anywhere, and don't need to be tied together into their own demiplane unless the DM wants 'em to be.

I could be way off-base. Just saying I could see it.

This is the best announcement yet...I am so pumped about ravenloft, but I hope it is in the distant astral sea...

Now all I need is spell jammer/Astral Jammer to be confirmed, and Darksun to be announced as 2010 and this will make me feel like the glory days are back...
