D&D 5E Ravenloft: Is it likely to get a 5e re-VAMP?

I'd love to see official new material in 5E for Ravenloft, but I've also been having fun converting older modules for 5E use, and I'll eventually do that for Ravenloft if they don't release new material.

Did you encounter any major issues or obstacles when doing your 5e conversions?

Besides the fact that the material is no longer in print, the PDF quality as hit-or-miss, and that one actually has to do conversions?

I don't have any real issue with WotC saying it doesn't make economic sense to devote their resources to older settings -- that should be implicit in my post. What I do have a problem with is the patronizing message that a 2E book fully meets 5E needs.

First- all this material that most people are clamoring for *already exists*, and it's an easy-ish convert.
It's not that the material doesn't exist or how hard it is to convert. There are a few issues at play...

1) Aesthetics. It just feels better to have everything as a "set". I could see a strong argument for publishing a no-mechanics version of a setting's fluff, with a gazetteer (print or PDF) for the mechanical stuff. But... that would require a reprinting, anyway, at this point. This is a fairly weak argument, but it's probably the one that truly motivates most folks who want an update.

2) Availability. Sure, some of the stuff is available via Drive Thru. The desirability of PDFs is very much subject to personal taste. I don't mind (prefer, actually) having PDFs of rarely used books, but much prefer anything "core", including the setting book, to be hard-cover. Also, no one is going just stumble upon, say, Eberron by accident, which brings us to:

3) Momentum. Only publishing content for the Realms is a self-fulfilling prophecy. As someone who likes Eberron, is warm to Dark Sun and Greyhawk, but absolutely does not like the Realms, it's very frustrating that the only setting that a new player can get exposure to on the store shelves is the Realms. Blech. Sure, the Realms don't have their own setting book, either, but they are getting updates and "screen time" by default.

That said, I understand where you are coming from- especially regarding issues like, say, classes in Eberron.
This one is a bit different than the above. There really isn't a palatable substitute other than rolling my own, for which I simply don't have time.

Wizards said in a recent survey that Eberron, Dark Sun, Ravenloft and Planescape are the top tier settings, next to the Realms.

They've been pushing the multiverse as part of their brand strategy, so all of those will get 5E support, probably with APs and some general supplements like the Adventurers guide.

Although those settings are top settings next to FR, I don't see a transition from FR any time soon, and I'm not sure that I'd enjoy an FR product with an Eberron/DS/Ravelonft/Planescape tie-in.

They just asked us what we're willing to buy; too early in the edition to know.

The way the Shadowfell is being described, what with Darklords and misty barriers that seal them in their own little regions, it almost seems like it's trying to become Ravenloft. I don't think I'd be entirely comfortable with a total replacement, but I AM very curious what the Shadowfell's relationship to it will be.

If memory serves, in 4e, the Ravenloft domains were basically islands floating in the Shadowfell. Now, I didn't maintain a subscription to DDI so I don't really know if that meant that each domain had somehow separated from all the others or if there was still a contiguous landmass or not.

With 5e adopting an interesting planar mix of 2e and 4e, it begs the question of what they want to do with the domains. Will they form their own plane? Will they be separate islands of terror? Will each domain revert to the setting that spawned it (for example, Sithicus returning to Krynn's Shadowfell)? Will all the Ravenloft domains be bound together only on D&D's version of Alll Hallow's Eve? Who can say?
