Ravenloft-Nova Vassa

Starrie

First Post
Greetings all!

I am in need of some help. I have recently started a Ravenloft campaign and have a player with a Nova Vassa horse.
Are there stats for these horses anywhere? Are they considered War horses (heavy, light) or simply riding horses?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am very new to the DM side of things.

The fellows at the Kargatane (http://www.kargatane.com) might now the answer. As far as I know (and I have all the 2E & 3E Ravenloft products) there has never been mention of any game effects for a Nova Vaasan horse.

You might give Nova Vaasa horses a list of traits that can be selected. Suggested traits: exceptional leaper (bonus to Jump), Robust (bonus to Hit Points & Fort save), Exceptionally fleet (bonus to speed and/or additional run mulitplier), fearless, strong (bonus to Strength and carrying capacity), sure-footed (bonus to Dexterity and Reflex/balance), Exceptionally Intelligent (bonus to Intelligence and number of tricks that may be learned), strong swimmer (bonus to Swim).

These are just off the top of my head... given a chance to sit down I probably could come up with something to actually work with.

Thanks Relic--that certainly a start.

Oh and I did check out Kargatane--what an awesome sight for Raveloft--but did not find anything concrete on the horses.

Off the top of my head, I seem to recall Nova Vaasan horses are sturdy plains types, and horses sold in the domain would probably vary in quality from riding horses to heavy warhorses. For members of an average wild herd, use riding horse statistics, unless you have a reason to put a particularly brave "alpha horse" (light warhorse).

Of course, if the PCs are abroad in Nova Vaasa at night, they *might* run into a herd of aggressive heavy warhorses led by a nightmare. You never know.

When visiting www.kargatane.com (and you should!), don't miss the Message Boards' Ask Azalin archive... some questions answered there about Ravenloft 3E.

When DMing Ravenloft, remember that the Dark Powers' rules trump ALL mortal magic. :)

They are known for having high quality horses so I would probably have riding or war horses that have advanced a HD or two available from there, or give them better than average stats.
