Could it be possible to enlarge and enhance them in Photoshop?

Not really. You're talking about blowing images up to 3-4x their original size. The result is pixelated mush that you would still need to manipulate to somehow cover up all the DM marks.

I think what he's trying to get at is "can't use for miniatures" ≠ "serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever".

Which doesn't change the fact that the images in the book and in the gallery still can't really be used with minis for tactical play.

If I was to give him the benefit of the doubt, I'd assume that when he talked about "nostalgic reasons" he thought that I was talking about the isomorphic maps. (Which are basically redrawn versions of the maps from the original module.)

It's a pity that Jhaelen decided to resort to personal attacks instead of simply saying "whoops, I made a mistake" (or, perhaps, offering whatever sensible interpretation of his nonsense he obliquely had in mind). But I doubt I'm suffering any great loss from his departure.

Just so. Tactical miniature maps (like those found throughout Expedition to Castle Ravenloft) are specifically designed to be used with miniatures. In fact, Expedition to Castle Ravenloft specifically talks about using the specific maps as published in multiple places throughout the book... but then WotC never provided the maps in a format or resolution to make that possible.
