re Frostburn: Everyone worships ICE?!

I think where Driddle is coming in from is, why are there are so few options for PCs to fight cold-based creatures in the book, kind of like how the Master of Radiance is in Libris Mortis or the Stonedeath Assassin is in Races of Stone.

Apart from a few feats like Cold Endurance, the material in the book seems more about drawing on the power of cold than fighting it.

It's a valid point, although I was (and still am) happy enough with Frostburn not to notice the lack.

Sure, snow and ice and sleet are a the basis of nature in Icefell settings. But you'd think a few intelligent sapiens living in the area would hold WARMTH and FIRE in high enough regard to include them in ... oh, I don't know ... reference to deities and/or prestige classes and the like.

Like Loki, father of everything evil and treacherous, you mean? I can't think of any other fire gods from cold climates, offhand.

Surtur, king of the Fire Giants, can be seen as another fire god. At least, that's what they did in Deities & Demigods.

It is interesting to note that Loki is evil, and the fire giants harbingers of destruction and mayhem. Not a very positive outlook on fire.

Fire is necessary for survival, but it is also the greatest hazard and a fickle mistress. I'm not suprised that there are few fire gods that come to mind when thinking about frostbased ecologies.

Don't know about the eskimos though. Anyone got a handle on them?

Cheers!

Most of us hairy creatures are warm-blooded, after all. We like to keep our body temperatures at a certain comfort level.

But nooooooo -- it's all blue and white and freeze-your-tuchas-off icy beauty throughout the whole darned book. Gimme a break! What's up with that?

Well, the only deity of fire or warmth I can think of off the top of my head in the Norse pantheon (well, actually he's a giant, but whatever) is Surtr, the Fire Giant who will set fire to creation during Ragnarok, burning existence (most of it at least) to ash.

Consider also that in a region of ice and frost, the power of the Sun or Fire God is greatly reduced - he may be worshipped, but is relatively ineffectual at doing anything significant.

Cheers!

Absolutely. In a dangerously frigid environment fire is a double-edged sword. Make a mistake and you're out in the cold.

Thank you. I can sleep easy tonight, knowing there is at least one reasonable person in the world.

Is this in print somewhere? I thought Loki was a norse Olidimarra... very CN, but fought with the other gods as much as he played tricks on them...
