Hehehe... this is what I get for not checking in on this thread! :D

First of all, sorry for the extended hijack... that said: I went off a little about a few of the things you can do in the other thread.

Think of Burning Man as Mad Max meets an art show meets a Grateful Dead show meets the ultimate spiritual experience meets... hmm, it's hard to describe. ;) It really does have to be experienced; I've tried for nine years to describe it to people and the only way that has ever really worked is to buy them a ticket.

Everything from the burning of the man himself to driving bars to multiple Black Rock City radio stations (Black Rock City is the community formed by the sudden arrival of 30,000-40,000 people in the middle of nowhere in the desert in Nevada) to art cars to bizarre sound sculptures; lasers dancing across the sky; bursting flames coming from strange vehicles, art pieces and people... and, of course, the ordeal of surviving in the desert in a place where there is nothing before the folks arrive. You bring everything you need with you- food, water, shade. You take everything with you when you leave.

It's indescribable. I keep trying, but not even pics really get it across. :)

Oh- and how long it lasts...

Officially it's usually from about Sunday to Monday (roughly 9 days). Some people only make it out for a couple of days, some people leave early (though very few before Saturday, when we burn the Man), some come early or stay late. I think my longest stay has been about, hmm, 12 or 13 days? And my shortest was prolly about 5.

Its in Nevada? Sweet! That makes it easier to get to. Too late to try it this year, besides I've got a dentalappointment tomorrow afternoon. I will be there next year! Maybe I cqan get my sister and her husband to go.

HOLY SHEEP! (grandma friendly)

Still worth it though. Like I said, I'm going next year!

:D When it gets closer to next year  we'll have to make plans to meet up at some point, or you might even want to camp with our crew (though we do party pretty hard out there).
