Reach Weapons

What my brother did in our last 3.5 game was he had a Large great sword, and since a medium GS says it its 5 feet long a large one has to be longer obviously, so our DM game him reach of 10 feet with it and he could attack adjacent foes, but if he is in a narrow passage way he only gets one attack with a -5 or something like that. (using a large weapon is from the Monkey Grip feat in complete warrior)

It's from Pathfinder, but maybe your DM will allow it:

Lunge (Combat)

You can strike foes that would normally be out of reach.

Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +6.

Benefit: You can increase the reach of your melee attacks by 5 feet until the end of your turn by taking a –2 penalty to your AC until your next turn. You must decide to use this ability before any attacks are made.

Excellent post, Wyvernhand (can't XP so soon, sorry). Just one correction:

Also, Armor Spikes aren't tripping weapons, so if you are controlling via Improved Trip, they aren't even really an option.

Improved Trip lets you trip with unarmed strikes without incurring an AoO, so a Guisarme plus Armor Spikes will work just fine: you'll threaten every square up to 10' away (or 20' if enlarged, which you should be in every combat). If the enemy gets too close to use the Guisarme, just trip with an unarmed strike and take your extra attack from Improved Trip with your Armor Spikes to deal a little damage.

In terms of the Initial Question: The Prestige Class Thrall of Demogorgon (Book of Vile Darkness) has the ability to exted its reach 5ft 3/day. There is no reason why a good or neutral prestige class (thrall of pelor) that gives the same ability without the vileness. It also has some other not bad abilites (I really like the PrC actually).

A Spinning Sword costs 50g, does 1d6 Slashing for medium creatures, and crits on a 19-20. Its exotic, 1-handed, and has all of the other properties of a Spiked Chain.

Interesting - that is the one weapon that received zero votes in my poll (referenced above). I have heard other players talk about it before, so the zero votes surprised me.

Missed the poll, :(

While the spike chain does give a lot of options I'm not a fan of it (maybe because of the greater "boost" between it and other exotic weapons)

Tried the longaxe and really enjoyed it. Required some tactical thinking about whether to go toe to toe or stand back a bit depending on the situation.

As for the OP, isn't there a whip/sword from somewhere?

Thanks for the advice and thoughts.

Think I am going to go with the Longaxe...I believe it fits right in with the Paladin idea I had (oh and the Stand Still feat someone suggested..love it..)
