Real Life Monsters

This is a list of real-life creatures that, with a twist or two, would be amazing for your bestiary?

I'll start with my favorite.

I went to Elk Island National Park near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and they blew my mind.

Essentially a freshwater jellyfish that is entirely carnivorous and regenerates at a level that puts Marvel's Wolverine to shame.

So naturally, in the Hodgepocalypse, I made a gargantuan version that can venture on land to terrorize my players. :D

The Riptide Horror appearing in Tomb of Horrors was developed here on EN World and largely inspired by Giant Tubeworms, but they could serve to represent giant Hydrazoans too

And talking of Cnidarians in a Sci-Fi campaign I had a Cnidarian species that was essentially an asteroid sized psychic coral colony, they had low level telekinesis, empathic communication and also possessed nemocyte tentacles that generated a disintegrating plasma (evolved to allow them to absorb minerals from asteroids/planets). Flumphs were their Polyps, deployed to investigate any planets they came across.

Those Tongue-Eating Parasites!

Bone Collectors.

Carnivorous caterpillars that live in spider webs. They eat prey caught by the spider, and to disguise themselves they cover themselves with parts of the dead insects stuck in the web!

I like the idea of the characters fighting a big monster, and then giant carnivorous caterpillars crawling out to take advantage of the chaos.

Also in the D&D world, what would they metamorphosize into???
