Real life spider for D20 campaign

I can honestly say that these spiders do exist. I watched one of my troops come running from the Cadillac (large porta-can trailer) in the middle of the night with one of these things chasing him. :)

I don't doubt they exist - I'm just wondering if those little tag thingies mean that this particular one in the picture is fake. ;)

Hmm

All it takes is a little internet search on Google. These creatures do exist and not just in the middle east but in other hot arid climates like africa and mexico.

They do not have any poison, instead relying on speed and strong jaws. They are fast (10 mph) and have a very high metabolism, rarely standing still and feed on small bugs, including scorpions and spiders, almost to bursting. They do not chase humans, but shadow. So if a person providing shadow for one moves, it will move to get back in the shadow.

There are several hundred species ranging from 25 to 75 mm in length.

Oh and apperantly it has several pairs of pale organs, that might be the "price tags"

From the link that monboesen supplied...

Their head has a very characteristic shape with powerful jaws or chelicerae with which they seize and chew there prey. The chelicerae are indicative of each species. Sexually mature male’s have backward pointing hook like structures called flagella on their chelicerae which are used in courtship. They can produce a twittering sound by rubbing their chelicerae together...

...Mating takes place at the end of the rainy season...

So apparently what we're looking at is Spider Porn... :D

The "twittering sound", combined with the likely cursing and possible screaming of soldiers who are taking away the poor Camel Spider's cover with them, would probably sound like screaming to the uninitiated. :p

Just want to chime in and tell you all that I absolutely hate spiders. Where is that repell vermin spell when you need it? Who made that eradicate vermin epic spell?

You know what the scarriest thing is? Those buggers are partially bullet proof! A couple of marines where on patrol, smoking pot and stuff, suddenly there's a big spider thingy, they freak and start shooting it. And you know what, not a scratch on the bloody thing! Next morning when the sarge asked what happend to them and why they had big puffy red eyes, they told the sarge that the where attacked by monster spider/scorions that was this biiiiig... pfttt!!! *has a laughing fit*

All I can say is...thank god I never had to place my life in the hands of the Korps Mariniers.

Full attack: Bite +6 melee (1d3-5 18-20 x3)

So, if it hits you, it'll heal you of 2-4 hps damage? And a critical could heal up to 12hps? Oh, wait, is that -5 just the Str modifier, and not multiplied, so a critical could do as much as 4hps damage?
