Reality in fantasy... how much is too much?

A lot of physics problems can be removed if one just assumes that since the gods of creation clearly like big monsters and such, they came up with a more efficient method of musculature advancement that negates the square/cube rule. I know that's the first thing to go if I was a god. I hate that stupid rule. :)

A 1,000 pound equimorphous quadruped with flapping wings only about 15 feet long can fly to begin with, and there's concern with it carrying 300 pounds? The thing couldn't get off the ground by itself in reality, much less take any weight with it.

According to the PHB people can lift ridiculous amounts too. I think I'm an average strength sort of person, but I can't lift 50 lbs. over my head. :D
Um, sniffles, either you're mistaken about being average strength, or you're mistaken about how much 50 lbs weighs. To work in a warehouse, you typically have to be able to lift 50 lbs overhead. A "strong" guy can press his own weight overhead -- more with some leg drive, less if he's lifting something awkward.

I feel a poll coming on!! :D

My bench press weight significantly beats my overhead lift weight - not that I've taken my life into my hands to find out how much I can really lift over my head.

What are you people doing that requires you to lift heavy objects over your head?

Are all the kids playing "Gorn vs. Capt. Kirk" and I haven't been invited yet?

That's normal. A typical ratio is 3:2, bench:military. Again, with some leg drive you can lift much more overhead than in a strict press -- 50% more if you train to "jerk" the weight like an Olympic-style weightlifter.

That's why I don't work in a warehouse. :p

Huh. I can lift more than 22.6796185 kilograms overhead, at least for a few "rounds", and I consider myself weaker-than-average.

Assuming you want things like hippogriffs and dragons flying around your campaign (and I know you do), the amount of real world physics in existance is directly proportional to the amount of magical lift creatures need to fly. Oh, and stop lifting all those heavy objects over your head. Have your character do it, they can lift way more than you can.
