What's that bugs people 'bout lycanthropes?
Way too much work. If I want to create a lycanthrope (say, were-weasels for my kobolds in my campaign), I need to extract the stats from the dire weasel, then make up two new templates and then apply both templates to the target creature.

That's a stupid amount of work.

Oh, then I guess it's my love of working on NPCs which doesn't make me a hater...

I was going to mention Drow...

The real issue is that it's needless work. If the were-form were just a templated version of the base animal (maybe DR equal to HP/silver and some other minor effects), it'd make things a lot better. There's a number of ways to streamline lycanthropes -- third party publishers love to do it -- which is why it's maddening that WotC hasn't done it.

Anyone who so much as mentions the Gelatinous Cube will wake up with a horse head in their bed; it fits perfectly on my graph paper!

Perfection will not be besmirched.

I want a Cube mini. No, seriously. I don't know that I'd ever use it, but I want one.

So been done, but:

Vampire.

I mean the template as it is is workable. I don't even hate level drain. I hate that the vampire has level drain. For specters and the like, it's great. But I need the vampire to remain fearsome.

I could have typed the same thing.

An Improved Grab that affects up to Large creatures and a Constrict ability that deals 1d4+4 points of damage not good enough for you?

No! I want the darkmantle to actually suffocate people, like it says in the description. That'd be cool.

Morghs. Why do they have to choose between slams and tongue attacks for paralysis? Why the zombie spawn rising after so long? Why are they boring?

Demiurge out.

Or at least compensate with equally boring fluff... which it does not have.

Consistency! If the evil of a person was enough to make its bones rise and perpetuate evilness it's gotta do something interesting!
