Reaper S01E16 - Greg, Schmeg (Spoilers)

When the Devil refuses to offer Sam any help on capturing the latest escaped soul, the gang turns to Gladys for help. Gladys then takes the guys to her demon friend Dennis who at first refuses to help but later on offers Sam a homemade vessel because he feels sorry that his parents sold his soul to the Devil. Meanwhile, Andi's ex-boyfriend Greg returns and Sam discovers that he has a plan to get her back.

So, what are your thoughts on the episode?

Again, I liked it. In a way, it are the small touches...
Like Ben not trying to hide his green-card marriage for his girlfriend - a typical trope that would have been employed in most other sit-com or comedic show.
I also liked Andis "ambiguity" as she was between Greg and Sam - She was never actively opposed to any of them, and Sam could always bring her back to her true feelings. It's hard to put in words, but somehow, that felt interesting - and unusual to the typical "love potion" trope...

I forget about the "Get-Out-Of-Hell-Card", and I didn't even think about it being actually usable for Sam. But as Sam put it, there is always a catch, and it would probably have failed in some way for him. (I suppose if it made the contract null and void, that meant that Sams family would look very different, and he might not even exist, or something like that...)

I'm heading out the door to see Eddie Izzard live tonight, so no time other than to say it was a great episode.

I like that they continually play outside of the stated formula.

I really liked this episode, and it definitely had a different feel/format than other episodes. It's good that it's still fresh and not formulaic.

I really liked the interaction between Sam and the devil in this episode - it was much more confrontational than usual. Sam definitely realized the devil is trying to corrupt him, and the devil is getting more bold in his attempts.

Also some great lines by Sock throughout as usual, especially when he was talking about his Cadillac.

I'm glad to see Gladys back. The last few episodes she was missing and I wondered what happened to her.

I had a thought. It seems unlikely that someone else can sell your soul. There is probably an escape clause if Sam remains good. If the devil can corrupt him however the devil gets to keep his soul.

I wonder what's going to happen with that special vessel Sam picked up from the demon. I thought they were just going to have him zap Greg or Greg's id with it, but that didn't happen. The use of the card was good too.

The sideplot with Ben's "wife" was twisted too. Myself, I would have just said "Screw it," and report it to immigration because she's crazy, but whatever.

The woman playing the crazy "wife" is quite good, and having Dualla show up as Ben's boyfriend has been quite a treat.

Why didn't Sam use the vessel on Greg? He tried it the once and then gave up. Did he realize it was Greg at that point?

He missed and the devil took him aside. That's when he still thought it was a rogue soul. I think Sam wasn't cold blooded enough to use it on someone who's still alive.

It would be really funny to see Sam use that vessel on the devil though.
