Recap: Ryan Dancey's Predictions for 2007

No, it's actually fairly accurate. 4e is big, but it's just D&D: it isn't anything new. It'll probably do good things for Wizards, but they aren't really expanding much elsewise.

Wizards are primarily now producing only a handful of products:
* Magic (trending downwards)
* D&D RPG
* Star Wars RPG (little consequence)
* D&D Minis
* Star Wars Minis
* Heroscape (moved over from Hasbro)
* D&D Novels
* Axis & Allies Minis

Actually, Merric, you've missed several, all of which are getting a pretty good amount of attention from WotC:

* MapleStory (they only have the North America license)
* The Eye of Judgement
* Av Hill board games

I think Ryan's call on this point is clearly off base; this roster is very similar in breadth and magnitude to the lineups of past years.

Thanks, Charles!

What is MapleStory, anyway?

Cheers!

Oh god... I hope it doesn't happen because I would hate to see WH become DnD-ified

Yeah, I would just hate it if there was:

a wfrp rpg with mechanics that actually worked
a wfrp rpg that was actually still published
a wh40k rpg that actually let me play space marines
a 40k minis game with prepainted plastic minis
a line of mediocre novels based on games (oh well, some things will never change) ;)

But on the other hand, you would see products released at a reasonable rate. Who knows, the cost of the models might get reduced as well.

I for one would welcome our gnomish overlords.

Hasbro buying Games Workshop might be okay as long as FFG still gets to publish the Warhammer FRPG and boardgames. Hasbro can adjust the miniatures game as much as they want.
