Recommend a Skill-Based Magic System

Although someone already mentioned it, Id like to point out that Legends of Sorcery was written with fantasy games of various magic levels in mind, includes new classes and information on using those from the core rules and was given a 5-star review by Crothian.

If the review survived the crash you can read it here, if not you can check it out at RPGNow.

And how can we forget True20 which is a purely skill based magic system (and, so far, seems to work well if perhaps a wee bit on the weak side).

...Primarily, I am interested if there is a skill-based magic system that utilizes Spellcraft, because as written there isn't much point in getting more than about 10 ranks in Spellcraft unless you are playing an epic campaign...

Of course, if you'd just like something to do with the Spellcraft skill instead, you might want to have a look at the Behind the Spells series.

We sort of use Spellcraft in our D&D game as a poor-man's Identify. Most standardized types of items, really, and getting ideas of what things like armor and weapons do and how "powerful" they are. I'm not running things, so I don't know what the GM has some of the more obscure DCs set at.

With four clerics making up the party we've all got at least enough to Aid Another. And if we all Take 10 and Aid the highest ranked member I think it hits 30.
