Recording game sessions?

Mr. Draco

First Post
I've been away from ENWorld and gaming in general for a long time, but a new friend of mine heard that I used to run games and has been bugging me incessantly to do another.

A few days ago, I finally decided I'd give it a shot, and I've been working a bit on a setting and background while I'm away for the summer.

My problem is that I just don't quite have the feel of the "old days" back. While I really want to do the campaign, I feel like something's missing, like I don't quite have the excitement for the hobby that I used to.

I was trying to find a group I could drop in with for a session or two, just to get back into the spirit of things, but unfortunately I'm stuck for the summer working in the middle of nowhere, New Mexico, and there aren't any groups to be found.

I was wondering if any of you who make audio recordings of your games would be willing/able to digitize one and send me an .mp3 of a session, or portion of one, so I could get the spirit of things again.

I've found that listening to our recorded game sessions is kind of like watching paint dry...with the paint occasionally attacking.

I recorded my last campaign on tape, and I toyed with the idea of digitising some or all of it, but good lord, that's a daunting task! Eventually I'll probably capturing a few bits and pieces here and there for posterity's sake. If I get the time to do it soon, I'll offer it to you, Draco. In the meantime, you might have to settle for story hours. ;)

Remember the That 70s Show episode where the gang decide to record their toke sessions in the basement. That's a best-case scenario for how the recordings will sound. I'll bring it up at my games but, realistically, what makes the games I play in work are the long digressions and bullexcrementingting (EDIT: the language filter is out of control) about politics, life, women, etc.

I do record my sessions as a matter of course and on a good day find they're as funny and entertaining the second time round as the first. They're also a great way to understand your failings as a DM, and get a feel for what is working in the game.

And no *way* am I going to let anyone else listen to them. :) But I wish you luck in your search.

As mentioned above, not my sessions but www.rpgmp3.com has the WLD campaign on audio. 40 sessions from beginning to end. Very relaxing to hear people BS'ing while at work without having to listen to your co-workers chatter.

BTW, both my game and a Shackled City game on the same site post the transcripts from our sessions. It's not mp3's, but, it's a somewhat fun read.

You might want to consider taking a gander at the Story Hour forum. It's not audio, but it is writeups of (for the most part) actual game sessions. You might not want to jump in on the big boys like Piratecat and Sagiro's story hours, but some of the small, shorter ones might help get your juices going - and there are plenty to choose from. There's also a handy thread stickied at the top with excerpts and blurbs about many of them to help you choose which ones to look at.
