Recruiting - For More Than Glory

Arkhandus

First Post
Hullo folks.... The campaign For More Than Glory is looking for one or two more players at this point, as a few players have grown more busy with stuff in real life, and drifted away from the game for now. Presently, the group consists of Fleck, Valdir, Zildrax, Snake, Rolf, and Argus, but Rolf is leaving the group for a while, and both Argus and Snake are essentially NPCs for the moment, so one or the other may get left behind by the group soon. Thus we only really have three active players right now, with two of the PCs-turned-NPCs likely to depart soon, and I'm hoping we can pick up one or two new players in the meantime! If you've been wanting to join in a T13K campaign, here's a chance!

For More Than Glory runs on Sundays from 6 pm Pacific to 9 or 10 pm Pacific, each week (that's 9-12 or 9-1 Eastern). Standard character creation rules and guidelines for The 13 Kingdoms and 3.5 Revised Edition D&D apply, primarily the T13K guidelines. Currently, the starting level for characters is 9th-level, but ECL adjustments from races such as lizardfolk or bugbears will apply towards that total ECL of 9 normally. The PCs are in the island nation of Kinrisar at the moment, but may very well travel back to the mainland in a few months. Post a reply here if you're interested in joining the group, and I can give more info then!

I'm currently the substitute-DM for this campaign, by the way, and the usual DM is Emiricol, who's presently rather busy with real-life work and family matters. Soon the DMing may be passed on to Fleck's player, Memnus, while we wait for Emiricol's return. Don't worry about that, though, we don't expect this to become round-robin DMing, it's just that both myself and Fleck volunteered to DM for a bit in Emiricol's absence so the game keeps on rolling.

Minor update..... So far, with a lack of any responses to this post, I have two players from my Saturday campaign that would like to join the FMTG campaign, and if no one from T13K jumps in to play before these two are ready to join, I'll be bringing them in to fill the gap as Rolf and either Snake or Argus leaves for an as-yet-indefinite period of time.

I'm seriously considering sending Valdir on a hiatus and bringing in a Paladin (Cromwell revisited and revised) with a cohort. If so, this might help a bit when we get short on PC's.

What are your thoughts?

I dunno. Actually, I don't think it could work at the moment as Snake and I think Zildrax are evil (Zil might be LN though actually) and paladins aren't allowed to knowingly travel with evil folks. I'll have to check Snake's and Zildrax's character sheets, then I'll fix this post if I'm wrong. And IIRC, For More Than Glory isn't exactly supposed to be the crusading good-guys campaign. {:^D I don't personally have any objections though of my own.

Zerash (not Zildrax! Zildrax is my board name.) is LN. However, alot of the paladin gods aren't too fond of Naeronites. That said, Zerash has no problem with them himself.

Could make for some good role-playing with Zerash...

How much longer are we going to drag Snake around? His player obviously flaked again.

I think the lack of some sort of goal, etc. is partially why we are having trouble keeping players.

Crom's only real crusade is going to be to thwart slavers, but, if he won't work, he won't work. Memnus, Emiricol, Crystorix, any thoughts?

Zerash's culture uses slaves, although it's more of a criminal punishment. Still, there is some potential for some very good roleplaying there. A little conflict is nice as long as they don't rip eachothers throats out. I'd be willing to give it a try.

His biggest beef would be Ulruz slavers and Ceomyr's practice of some lords selling endentured servant contracts to Ulruz slavers, but slavery is slavery, especially to a paladin. The intensity of the arguments would likely depend on Zerash's viewpoint on his race's slavery practices. If it is more of a chain-gang situation, I doubt if he would have too much trouble with it, just as he doesn't like, but doesn't vehemently oppose the indentured servitude practices of Ceomyr.

I have another character idea (actually Crom's cohort boosted a couple of levels) that is more martial and less paladin-like if there will be a problem with a paladin. I just feel we need some heavy-duty front line troops. Valdir holds his own, but melee is not his element. Argus does ok, as does Rolf, but their focus is not strictly melee combat either. Basically, we need some meat shields that can deal out serious melee damage while Argus, Rolf and Fleck utilize their talents to better effect.

Yeah. Zerash is a cleric, but built to be an adequate meat shield. I also think my friend Jultach (Jules the jungle elf barbarian/shaman in my Saturday game) will play a meat shield, though I'm not sure yet what sort of character Yumiko is planning on. Argus, well, either he'll improve as he gains more levels of druid for healing/buffing, or he'll improve by focusing more heavily on fighter or barbarian levels again......or he'll just go away and be replaced. I prefer not to ditch a character just because I'm struggling with 'em, so I'm still trying to see if Argus is worth playing after my wierd trend with him. He'll either grow as a character soon, or go away like the red-headed stepchild he practically is. :)

Snake will leave the group soon, as will Rolf, at the earliest convenient point after the party leaves the dragon's cave. Probably after going to the next town, possibly a bit sooner or later depending on what I decide on for their reasons. I'll be more decided about it by tomorrow or Sunday. Though Evandariel/Snake has been rather flaky in neither showing up nor letting us know if his life just got too busy again, I'm not a mean-spirited guy, and I'm unlikely to just kill the PCs-turned-NPCs outright. So Snake and Rolf will probably go their separate ways from the group, and if either player returns later, their PC will still be around somewhere in Aerde to pop back up in the group's path. If Memnus or Emiricol agree at the time, anyway, hehehe, since I expect Memnus will be taking over DMing soon. I'll keep going until either the gnomes-in-Kinrisar-stuff is done, or until one of the next few cities is reached and Memnus decides he wants to implement whatever he may have planned for that already.

Edit: Random thought just after I hit Submit Post..... Anyone think I should just build Magnus Krieghelm's long lost cousin/brother/sister/whatever as a replacement for Argus? {:^D

Going against slavers would probably be the only way that Fleck would get along with a paladin for very long, so yeah, that'd work.

I've always thought that the problem of legal slavery was an interesting one for a paladin's player. On the one hand, slavery is evil, but when they're not doing anything illegal, you can't just cut them down.
