Red Riding Hood

Saw this film early today and I was surprised by it. It's really all about direction and misdirection and there are plenty of red herrings introduced. The script and acting are stylized in a way that some people might find off putting in a horror film but are not unfamiliar to those who enjoy typical fantasy film fare. It might also throw people off who go in looking for a straightforward story only to infd that they are watching a mystery. The art direction and other such considerations (sets, costumes, music, etc.) and atmosphere are very well executed. But this is a gory fairy tale brought to a modern audience and there are places where punches are not pulled. Ultimately, I think most people will be kept guessing until the end while still feeling like they have not had information withheld from them. Not a "great" film but a very good job bringing an old tale (or two) to the big screen with some new twists. If you're a tabletop fantsy gamer, particularly a DM/GM, I'd say this is a must-see.

Well I enjoyed it but I did think a lot of the blood has been removed to suit the taste of the audience. It does try very hard to go for the Twilight crowd but I have to admit it was quite enjoyable.

I felt it needed to go off the overused route a bit more,
such as when Valerie puts on the pig mask and one of her supposed friends starts to berate her
.

It looked like Who's the Werewolf (or whatever that convention game is called) the movie. Someone is a werewolf, most everyone else is villagers, someone dies each night, and the villagers choose someone each day to kill they think is the werewolf.
