The second poster looks okay, but I think the first looks HORRIBLE.

And I never really liked Rose McGowen. Not really sure why. Just something about her bugs me. Could be acting ability, could be something else. She just... meh. Many women I get excited about, but not her.

It's all in the performance and delivery. Seriously, its like judging a book by its cover. If I did that I wouldn't have been blown away by the stuff you've written Ari.

Thing is--much as I appreciate the comparison --it's not just in performance and delivery. When dealing with a literary character, you have to pick someone who at least looks believable in the role. Sonja is supposed to be one of the preeminent warriors ever. She's got to be a lot bigger and buffer than McGowan.

(I also don't much care for her acting talents, but that's more of a pure opinion issue, so I won't address it here.)

This isn't a character like Buffy, where she can afford to be tiny and stick-thin, because her strength is mystically granted. This has to be someone who looks like she can kick ass and take names. And McGowan just doesn't.

Nope. Some things that appear to be opinion, are actually fact. She is too self-aware when being filmed/taped to really get into a character.

A remake of Red Sonja is currently in the works. It is currently in pre-production and very little has been decided on. It is scheduled to be released in 2010.[1] It will be produced by Robert Rodriguez, directed by Douglas Aarniokoski, and actress Rose McGowan will portray Red Sonja. Djimon Hounsou will play the role of Thulsa Doom. Kulan Gath will also play a major role in the movie.

Douglas Aarniokoski is apparently the director of Highlander: Endgame.

Now granted, I on't know much about the Red Sonja character beyond the craptastic 80s movie . . . I know it's a beloved comic, but I'm not sure if there are pulp stories at the heart of it like Conan.

But a quick google image search of "Red Sonja" brings up a LOT of pictures from the comics, and they are not pictures of a woman who can kick ass and take names. They are pictures of a playboy bunny with enormous boobs and the skimpiest of skimpy chainmail bikinis. 70s fantasy cheesecake at its best! After perusing those pictures, I can't help but think McGowan is better suited for the role than Brigitte Nielson ever was.

I concur.

An I happen to like Rose as an actress. She did a really good job in Charmed. Had she not been in Charmed, I might not be interested in seeing this Remake/Reimagining.
