Wait What! A new Red Sonja?! Is this remake or sequal? What's wrong with the original?...
Now, I have not seen the movie, though most films that win themselves Razzies are considered lousy movies.

When dealing with a literary character, you have to pick someone who at least looks believable in the role. Sonja is supposed to be one of the preeminent warriors ever. She's got to be a lot bigger and buffer than McGowan.
Literary? This is the comic character Sonja, IIRC she be a far cry from REH's literary Sonya. While it would be nice to have a slightly more meatier girl in the role, since she dresses for S&S cinema in real life*, at least she won't pull any "I won't wear that!" shenanigans.

It's not current enough?

The second poster looks okay, but I think the first looks HORRIBLE.

And I never really liked Rose McGowen. Not really sure why. Just something about her bugs me.
The only thing that she irks me is that she used to be Marilyn Manson's GF.

Yes, for the record, I hate the guy.

Huh?

Two questions:

Was that movie ever released? I never heard of it, though it was new, but the most recent date on that was 2 years ago.

If it was released, did it have a Wagner soundtrack? :D

From the Artist
"The only thing that our story has in common with the Wagner opera is that we used some of the same material from the Volsung Saga. This story is about 1,500 years old. It was passed down verbally from generation to generation over hundreds of years until it was written down in the 13th century. In the past hundred years, it has been retold in various ways, and in many different versions, but my story focuses on the relationship between Siegfried, the dragon-slayer, his tragic love for Brunhild, the powerful Queen of Iceland, and the lovesick Princess of Burgund, Kriemhild." -- director, Uli Edel.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, though the script flags in a few places, mostly in regard to the dialog. Certainly not a waste of time for any fantasy gamer to rent or even own.

It was really pretty decent, though I find Kristina Lokken incredibly uninteresting (beyond her appearance, but in Hollywood that's nothing remarkable in and of itself). I'm pretty happy with Rose as Sonja, even if she isn't the best actress around. I enjoyed her performances in Death Proof and Planet Terror and I think she'll do well in this role. Rodriguez has shown he can make cool-looking flicks if nothing else. This one could be good.

The posters are pretty cool, even the blood licking one (as gross as it is).

Actually, it's exactly like Buffy. Sonja's powers were mystically bestowed by a goddess after she was wronged by men.

And to tie it all together, Brunnhild's strength is conferred by a magical belt so Kristanna Loken or someone even less athletic-looking can play her as well!

It's quite literally an "ancient convention" of the female warrior tale . . . no one's ever really been all that keen on them "looking the part."
