Regarding Enhancement Bonuses on Weapons

The enhancement bonus from a magic weapon overlaps with that of being masterwork.
Right. And what was that in response to?

So making a GMW does not automatically make it a masterwork weapon.
Sure it does if GMW makes it a magic weapon. Your quote clearly shows that "All magic weapons are masterwork weapons...."

If what you say is correct, that magic weapons are not magic items (i.e. not wholly contained, as it were, in the set of magic items), then you need to explain those references.

Note - I didn't say a magic weapon is not a magical item. I said that whether a magic weapon is a magical item is irrelevant for determining whether GMW increases hit points.

For what it's worth, I consider a GMW'd weapon to be a magic item, and would not allow it to be affected by Mage Hand, nor would I allow a GMW'd club to be affected by Shillelagh.

Well, then, I'd say you were being consistent. I don't like it, though, because it brings up a couple more issues: the area dispel and then the inconsistency regarding other spells like keen edge which do not make the weapon a magical weapon or magical item.

Anyway, I appreciate the responses. :)

I wouldn't allow Mage Hand to target a dagger with the Keen Edge spell on it either :)

Yeah, but is that a house rule or can you defend the idea that a dagger with keen edge is a magical weapon (and thus magical item)? :)

PS Note that I'm not just asking for the sake of asking, I plan on using this information to decide how I plan on ruling MW and GMW.

No, I'd say it's a magical item, but it isn't a magic weapon :)

I think the more interesting question is: what is the hardness and hit points of a double weapon (say, a quarterstaff) that has only one end enchanted? :p
