Reign of Fire - minor spoilers

I agree with mistwell Go see Road to Perdition.I seen both movies yesterday Reign of Fire is average at best the only highlight is the Dragon visuals and there weren't enough of them.
Road to Perdition on the other hand is a fantastic movie I see Oscar all over it Certainly Best Actor(Hanks),best supporting actor(Newman),best director and Best Picture.or at least nominations. What is it about Tom Hanks and the magic he puts into his films. The Ironic part is I went in more excited about Reign of Fire.

RoF was pretty amusing, though also disappointing as well. The film is rather bleak visually, with alot of shades of grey. the days seem to stay just around twilight. This actually helps the film in some ways, it's much easier to create convincing CGI without vivid colors.

I can't help but think there was a great disaster movie in there, waiting to break out. The whole 'dragons take over the world' part was disappointingly glossed over. I'd been hoping for dragons v. helicopters or tanks or something. Not simply a map and an understated explanation. But the movie in general was frustratingly understated. Even the action, which could have used more of a sense of danger and suspense. All just IMHO. It was a fun movie, but could have been much much more fun.

Saw it last night. Quite enjoyed it. Good atmosphere and mood. It did seem rushed though - hard to put my finger on why.

Saw it last Friday...

I was in a Wedding in Las Vegas this past weekend and was able to sneak out during Friday afternoon to check out the flick. I felt like most of you that it was an o.k. movie and that it had the potential to be a "good movie". I enjoyed several scenes through out the film and thought there was room for a sequal (I hope they don't because if it going to be worse than the first one, look for it to come out on dvd first). It really urks me that nobody can produce a film that has a dragon in it and is pretty good. I think the last one was Dragonslayer.

I did like M.M.'s part. I actually thought that if they did a story on M.M. character (Van Zant) it would be much better then this film. Maybe we can hope for a prequel so we can see his 200 dragon kills.

This plot had more holes than Gary Gygax's underpants!

Forget all the rest of your points.

Why are you even analyzing the plot of a movie like this? Watch and enjoy the eye candy. Or were you actually expecting a plot?!?

Salutations,

I judge movies by the ruler they set.

When a movie wants to be taken seriously as RoF did, then I hold it to a standard beyond eye-candy.

A movie like Eight Legged Freaks does not take itself seriously- and can be enjoyed its merits.

I sort of enjoyed this film. What was there was good, but I could have personally done so much more with that idea. Did anyone else think that the bull dragon fight was way too easy and too short. Where was some hand to claw fighting. They could have at least had that Van Zan guy jump and land on the dragon. Then he could chop it a couple times with his axe and then get eaten. Oh well:(
Sort of mislead by everything I saw about this film before seeing it. I swear I remember seeing a movie poster where there were helicopters and fighter jets dog fighting a whole pile of dragons. This movie needed that. It could have been put in when the one character was remembering how the dragons took over.

Overall alright fluff movie, but save this one for a rental. Nothing that you have to see in the theatre here folks.

Hmm. I saw a movie that took its dragons seriously, and the rest was pretty much a wrapper for dragons to come in.

Were you really expecting more than that? I can't imagine going to RoF to see deep characters or a brilliant plot. You're there to see dragons, and the film delivers.

Didn't anybody else enjoy the scene where Quinn and his second-in-command put on the play for the children? You know, where they acted out the climactic scene from The Empire Strikes Back ? That was my favorite scene. Screw the dragons (although they did look pretty cool). I was grinning from ear to ear during the play scene. It reminded me of why I love movies, and, to me, it was the most inspired scene in the entire movie.

Cripes, if nobody else mentions that scene, I'm going to feel like I'm blathering on worse than Harry Knowles.
