Reincarnate = immortal?

Break Enchantment can also break instantaneous spells.
Yowza! I missed that. I bet that reincarnated person will have an interesting story to tell once they return to the Outer Planes...

"Well, I got cursed, so the cleric tried to Break the curse. But he Broke my body by accident..."

I suppose Reincarnate should become Conjuration like the other Res spells. Initiating House Rule Engine 2.1...

I just use the Timeless Body model, and assume that even though they're living in a young aduly body, they still die of old age once they hit their 'limit'.

Personally - I couldn't give a crap if the PC's live forever. It simply doesn't matter - either the game was designed so that they WOULD live forever, or it was designed so that it would be over before they die of old age. For that reason, there's nothing to balance, and any cries of balancing a mechanical benefit with a roleplaying disadvantage go out the window.

There are actually characters in the world other than the PCs though. Anyone who can reasonably come up with 1000gp and one level every 70 or so years should be thousands of years old. It just kinda messes with a lot of storylines is all.

I like the Timeless Body idea, I just wish it were in print.

Fits the concept of Reincarnation well...

Living forever by changing forms fits the concept of Reincarnation well. You can have alot of fun with someone who is constantly reincarnating themselves. Maybe you as DM decide the pc has done something wrong, so the deity powering the spell decides to reincarnate them as a peasant or cow. Have fun with it.

Or better still, become the evil druid himself?

Well, if he was the evil druid, it'd be hard to reincarnate himself after he's dead...and before he's dead, he wouldn't need it. So he'll definitely need a druid buddy...and what happens when his evil buddy druid decides that he doesn't want to reincarnate him again...

Yeah, there's no core rule to prevent it.

I rule that the Druidic Orders in my world are pretty stingy with their magic, and don't just hand it out to people who can afford it. Doing so might upset the Balance, after all. But I DO see them constantly reincarnating their High Druid, or something. That would be an interseting plot element - there is and always has been the same High Druid, for tens of thousands of years.

Hmm... That's very interesting idea...

Quietly scribbles in notebook.

Yes, very interesting idea...

Yea, but you see, the problem there Hyp is that you're doing something that makes SENSE.

IE< If you really don't want immortality simply use the standard ways of handling the issue.

On the other hand, IMC, I ignore the part of timeless body that says you still die. Because I like immortality to exist. Some beings should be timeless and forever, and should be only killable in certain instances, not by simple old age. This is why there are druids that are as old as the forests, why there are monks that trueky HAVE seen it all. They only die by violence, or by choosing to "move on", something that would be suicide if anyone else attempted it, but really for them, when they reach their normal alloted time of death, they gain (through a part of the timeless body ability) the ability to open a door to the next level, and step through whenever they feel finished with this life.

Some heros or special characters choose to stay around and help the world in this life.
