Reoccuring dream elements?

I always have two typical anxiety dreams: either I forgot to go to gym class or English class in high school one year, or I'm about to go on stage and I never learned my lines.

These are usually accompanied by mazes of locker-lined hallways that are a blend of every school I've ever attended.

I've been half-heartedly trying to lucid dream for a while now, and one of the things that can help you lucid dream is to identify recurring things in your dreams and learn to recognize them, so that the next time you see or experience one of these "dream signs" you will realize you're dreaming. I've made mental notes before of things the recur in my dreams.

My S/O, Merkuri, seems to always dream that she's back in high school. :D
School: True. Maybe a full third of the dreams I remember feature me going back to high school or college and seeing people I haven't seen since then. Sometimes I'm very bored in the dreams (usually when I'm forced for one reason or another to take high school classes, with are incredibly easy when one has already graduated college) and other times very stressed (usually because the school has been switched around and I end up being lost when the bell rings, no clue which room or what class I'm supposed to be in).

The really frustrating thing about this particular dream sign is that I can remember several occasions when I've actually said to myself in a dream, "Isn't it funny that I always dream I'm going back to school, but now I really am!" Never never never have I made the connection and considered that I might be in a dream NOW.

Strange bathrooms: Obviously, these dreams usually happen when I have to pee. In my dreams, I'm often forced to go in public or on very strangely-shaped toilets. The one time I remember dreaming I was in a normal bathroom stall I noticed a peeping tom on the other side of the stall door and I rushed up from the toilet to bang the door open and start beating him up, my pants still around my ankles.

Out of control or hard to control cars: These dreams started long before I actually learned how to drive a car. They usually involve me being in a car with no driver (yet the car does not veer off the road or crash - it's just taking me god knows where) or me driving a car that I have little or no control over. Often the break pedal doesn't work well or at all.

Tripping over a log: Sometimes just as I'm about to drift off into deep sleep I see myself running through a forest and tripping over a moss-covered log. I always jerk forward in bed to catch myself just as I wake up. It's always the same exact moss-covered log I trip over. I usually do this once every three months or so. No clue at all where this comes from. The "dream" usually lasts half a second, just long enough for me to see the log and jerk myself awake as I think I've tripped.

Flying like I'm on strings: When I fly in my dreams it's usually as if I'm on strings. I walk along like normal, then just pull up my feet and continue moving forward at the same speed and height. Changing direction takes a lot of willpower and concentration, but moving forward is effortless. It's a "bodies in motion stay in motion" sort of thing, and the end result is that I sort of feel like I'm sliding through the air.

My Mom, brother and I have this thing about bears.

So your family dreams about bears when someone's hurt? That's freaky.

A friend once told me that she had a dream about towers falling the night before 9/11. I don't remember her exact story, but she was very freaked out when she saw the news.

This common for me, too. Sometimes it's an important class that I've never went to, and I've missed half a semester.

The inside is a mishmash of schools, but outside, oddly, it's the middle school I went to for only 2 years before moving away.

My dreams often end with me falling a long ways, and then waking up.

While it isn't recurring, I once had a vivid dream of winning the lottery. Talk about disappointed when I realized it was a dream....

Recurring themes:

1) I can fly by flapping my arms. Why hasn't anyone else figured this out?

This generally happens when I've been in an optimistic mood recently

2) There's been a problem discovered with my transcripts from {High School or College}. I need to go back for a semester and retake a couple classes or they'll yank my diploma. Oddly, this never causes a problem with my job.

This generally happens when I'm feeling overwhelmed / incompetent at something.

Random dream I had last night:

I was kidnapped by the mafia. Despite having no experience in such matters, they wanted me to be their accountant. Since they needed me to learn to be an accountant in a hurry, they handed me a dozen torn-out pages from a d20 modern book listing the details of a half-dozen or so Accountant PrC's.

Every few months, I have a dream where something happens which causes me to have a mouth full of broken teeth.

I also have a reoccurring dream where I am some sort of super spy or cat bugler.

Once or twice a year I have a dream where I'm the female version of myself. These dreams tend have a "what if" type of storyline.

I have not had reoccuring places except for a maze of stairs going into the dark with rotted cracked wood for walls along these stairs. People would always be chasing me and 3-5 kids (ages 4-5) that I was trying to protect from them.

I guess that was me wishing I still had my innocence about me.

This wasn't a recurring dream (I had it when I was five) but it is one that was so vivid that it has stuck with me all my life. I was walking on the green of what I think was a golf course at a country club my father belonged to, but it was covered with row upon row of grotesque statuary (gargoyles and such). One of the gargoyles came to life and attacked me but my father faught it off. I remember every detail, including the overcast gray sky and the yellow, blood-stained teeth of the gargoyle. Very strange, and I'm not sure what triggered my young mind to have a dream like that.

I don't remember my dreams anyone.

As a kid I had a dream of being locked in a shanty in the middle of a desert. Inside was a man (no one I knew) whom was strapped into an electric chair. As the sun set hundreds of werewolves would attack in mass to get at the man while I watched. After a week of this, I took control of the dream. (even at 5 I understood the need to do this) The desert was full of motion detection silver bullet machine guns, flame throwers and ectc...

weird.

The only other reoccuring dream was the stairways with the children.

oh yeah- and the one with bigfoot. As a kid I dreamed of him standing by a tree near our house. He and his pink eyes.

Turns out that is the color they reflect instead of the normal yellow or white. Strange to know this as a kid...... Dream or suppressed memory?
