Replacing Divine casters with...

The day the gods died…

I’m working on a world without functional gods… they were slain in the last age. This is the first part of my workaround for not having divine casters. What do you think?

I’m also working on a short prestige class to cover Men of Faith. When I’m done with it I’ll toss it on up here for you all to rip apart for me.

New feats

Divine Lore:

Prereqs: Skill Focus (Know Religion or Nature), 5 Ranks in Knowledge Religion (Nature)

Benefits: Pick your wisdom modifier in spells from either the Cleric (Religion) or Druid (Nature) spell lists. These spells must be of a level you can cast. These spells are considered on your spell list as well as your spells known. Regardless of your actual primary casting attribute your wisdom –10 determines the highest level of divine spell you can cast if lower and your primary if higher.

These additional spells acquire a couple of additional components to use…
1) An appropriate divine focus (unless it already required one)
2) An XP cost of 5 XP’s/per spell level (cantrips cost 2 XP’s each)

You may take this feat multiple times.

I'd reword that limit thing to something like this, and apply another prereq, just for logic's sake:

Divine Lore
Preqs:
Feat: Skill Focus in Knowledge (Religion or Nature)
Skills: 5 ranks in the same skill
Spells: Ability to cast spells.

Benefit: Pick a number of spells equal to your Wis modifier from the Cleric spell list (for K(R)) or the Druid spell list (for K(N)). These spells must be of a level you can cast.
To determine the highest level of these spells you can cast, use your Wis or your existing primary spellcasting attribute -10, whichever is the lower.
These spells are added to your spell list, and in addition you know them (if you cast spells spontaneously, they do not count against your limit of known spells; if you prepare spells they are added to your spellbook).
These spells always have a DF component and an XP component (5 per spell level if none is already listed or a lesser value is listed; orisons cost 2 XP.)

I think this captures the spirit of yuor proposal.

This reminds me strongly of the Umbragia setting.
All gods are dead, but there are lots of churches with blessed and devoted, each having a bond with a patron.

bensei: I'll take a look at your setting. But I'm sure your aware of how much fun it is to kill your own gods...

Now as to the Pclass... I'm think 5 levels no spell casting progression... some "divine" abilities and gaining new spells would be what it provided.

Divine abilities...
