Replicators vs Borg

BAH!

Ferret, Dagger 75, Ranger Reg,

Bah!

Replicators are nothing more than a more primitive version of the refined Borg nanotech, which is already fully understood by the Collective, and most importantly of all, infinitesimally smaller than the Replicator tinkertoys.

As far as their being intelligent, termites don't build the mounds taller than can be so supported by their own weight. Big deal if some Reps have some built-in instinctive behavior that keeps them from over mining a ship. They are just bugs whose behavior is shaped by evolution not consciousness.

Energy tech is not the battlefield where Borg vs. Reps will be decided, its the nanofield. Remember the Black Death, was it the Rep-sized rats than killed all the people? No, it was the Borg nanotech-sized bacterium Yersinia pestis that did. A macroscopic organism like the Reps wouldn't have a chance versus the Borg assimilation vector.

Heck, given the Borgs expertise in the field of cybernetic control after the first Rep was assimilated, the Borg would know enough about the Reps infraspecies communication schema that the sapient Borg could start issuing commands to the sub-sapient Reps and instantly domesticate the species. If the Borg met the Reps what would happen, a drawn out war between the two?
Nope, in the space of few minutes, the Borg would become twice the badasses they were before with the Reps assuming the role of their new wardogs.

Finally, for purely aesthetic reasons, I would much rather see the Borg, in all their techno-zombie splendor with their bodacious, assembly-required Queen, come out victorious over some purple-pink Legos whose clattering racket sounds like six inch press-on nails tapping on formica.

"Replication is Futile." :D

Sorry, as much a Trek fan as I am, the Replicator will overcome the Borg Collective. The Borg is a highly advanced species, that is something the Replicator find appealing. They will simply take apart the drones which is a cyborg and use whatever machine part is needed to sustain and survived as they reach the heart of the Collective, Unimatrix One.

Taking SG1 canon, the Replicators' ideal food is highly advanced technological cultures, I'd say the Borg would be their ideal prey. The replicator that landed on Earth was unable to take over because it was stuck with low-grade materials (specifically, a Russian sub) to work with. The Replicators' strength basically is proportionate to their enemies' strength, against low-tech foes they're weak, against ultra-high-tech they're unstoppable. This isn't nearly as true of the Borg. About the only ones who might stop the Reps would be Species 8476, if their ships are biotech the Reps might not be able to assimilate them either.

I doubt a rust monster can penetrate energy shields.

Replicators would probably overwhelm and swarm a rust monster by number and eventually suffocate or choke the monster by blocking the air passage, assuming the creature also survive on oxygen.

of course rust monsters can't penetrate shields! duh! (:p )

but any worth while captain with the right technology (or a teleport spell) can get the rust monsters in.

suffocate it? um as long as they're made out of metal wouldn't they just disintegrate upon touch?

do you mean that there would be so much dust the rust monsters might suffocate or gorge themselves like a gold fish and go belly up? ... if so then send in more rust monsters! One of them has got be worth it for the amount of replicators it can wipe out.

:)

I'm not saying reps aren't intelligent but if they are; vermin can't be affected by mind affecting stuff.

The thing is, one borg goes aboard a ship, it gets pounced by 50+(low) reps, thse make 50+ more of that matereal, then two come to investigate. The Arrogant(yup) borg lost 4 say( so you don't argue, I would say 8) borg, big deal yeah? Reps get 400+

Oh and reps have got acid spray, that can melt through 3-4" thick steel, like the ones they use for walls, and doors.

el Wrongo! :-P

um, aren't you confusing them with the movie Runaway with Tom Seleck (sp) as a cop who has to deal with the KISS guy ... who has little spider robots that spray acid? ;)

Totally cool movie for its time. I loved the gun the bad guy had. It fired smart darts instead of bullets. If the darts missed, they turned around and homed in on their target. (Though I think they were confused by steam, so they must have been heat-seeking. Or I could be mixing up movies.)

The woman in the movie, who was the girlfriend of the bad guy, who was that? I think she was also the (short-lived) mother from Blind Fury.

Definatly not! They use it when they find the robot girl who made them!
