And here I thought it would be ultra-plaid.
I think "only 10 colors" is an exaggeration, but I for one have issues with subtle color differences. Like, teal is definitely different from blue and green, but when I see it I think "blue/green". And when I look at bottles of teal, aqua, and turquoise I can definitely tell that they are slightly different hues, but without labels I'd be hard-pressed to identify which is which.Any miniatures painting enthusiast can sneer at that base canard. I can reach bottles of both teal and fuschia from where I'm sitting, and like most folks who've at the hobby long enough I can identify by them by sight, not label. That's why we put color dots on the caps, y'know.
People do vary, as do paint manufacturers and their ideas of what color is what. I'm sure I could ID teal and turquoise, but aqua might get me.And when I look at bottles of teal, aqua, and turquoise I can definitely tell that they are slightly different hues, but without labels I'd be hard-pressed to identify which is which.
As an aside, this is one reason I like Army Painter's newer paints. In addition to the "branded" names (e.g. "Murder Scene"), they also have practical names in smaller type (e.g. "Black purplish red"). They started with this when launching Speed Paints 2.0 (fairly late in the process so the first batches don't have the practical names) and continued with it with their new Fanatic War Paints. I believe this was the result of a suggestion from Brent "Goobertown" Amberger when he was consulting on the Speed Paints.People do vary, as do paint manufacturers and their ideas of what color is what. And everything goes out the window when you get to gaming paints with made-up names instead off "artist's colors" where there's a stronger consensus on what shade is what. Nipple Pink you can at least guess at (keep your shirt on!) but without setting knowledge what color is Trollkin Flesh going to be?
