Resist against attack

Hello,

one of my players has a power that says the following:

"and you gain resist equal to your constitution modifier against the targets attacks until the end of your next turn"

Does that means the targets gets -x on his attack rolls or,
-x on his damage rolls?

I thought it was -x on the attack rolls, but doesn't resistance mean resist against a specific damage type?

"Resist" always refers to damage. If it was a penalty to attacks, it would instead something like "...and the target takes a -2 penalty to hit you until teh end of its next turn" or something.

Abilities like this are a great way for a pc to get into the thick of things without just getting torn to bits.

Yup.

Resist does mean resist against a certain class of damage. It is not limited to damage types. 'The target's attacks' is a class of damage. There's also 'all', 'weapon' and other non-damage-typed resists.

This just happens to be an incredibly specific resistance.
