Does anybody know offhand how much a temple would charge to ressurect a character?

Well I know you need a sprinkle of Holy Water and Diamonds worth 10,000gp as material components. Ouch, that hurts the ol' gold purse.

Plus, don't forget if you use this method to include the cost of material components as well.

Always throw in a quest above and beyond the actual cost.

Doesn't have to be a BIG quest, though - More like, "You owe me a favor, and this is how I'd prefer to be repaid."

However, the bigger the Quest, the more you should cut the price of Resurrection - Which is, incidentally, 10910 gp. Churches will probably prefer their payment in something besides gold - At that scale, gold is hard to spend, and valuable items are easier to use. Magical items, art objects, gems... Of course, if you have 10000 gp worth of diamonds to pay them with, no problem.

Wouldn't Raise Dead also work if the person has not been dead too long?

I just had a character "buy the farm" in my last game. He is a dwarf, and he died fighting some ogres (his fault entirely, they had gone SEVERAL days without battle, had just left a city, and he was STILL down less than half his HP. If he had mentioned to anyone else he was still hurt, the party had cure spells that went to waste because the didn't think anyone was still damaged).

The Temple of Tempus raised him, for a bunch of gold and the promise of a quest.

I've always felt that a god would not just grant the gift of re-life on anyone, especially if the person in question was not of their church. He died in battle, taking on three ogres while hurt to defend his friends, so I thought it applicable.

Now I just have to come up with a suitable quest...
