I like there being restrictions on what you can multi-class into (and retain your Paladin or Monk progression), but that's a campaign-specific decision.

That goes against the whole idea of Options not Restrictions....

And you know what the problem with rules I don't like is. While I can easily ignore them in my own campaign with Rule Zero, I can't quite readily do that in someone else's campaign.

Besides how can it be "Fan Feedback" keeping those rules, when a sizable number of fans don't want those rules kept?

This disinheartens me. I am trying to figure out just WHO they are talking to if they think that these "restrictions not options" are really what most customers want. If this is the sort of judgement we can expect, I am seriously concerned about the rest of 3.5e.

Maybe we're just the vocal minority?

I doubt it, since I can name only a handful of people who enjoy hardwired restrictions based on nothing but flavor text...but who knows.

This reminds me when they said they would "make a disservice to the fans if they changed anything to the half-elf or half-orc, who are already especially liked and powerful".

Hey, what about when they said the new mantra was "making 3e more like 3e".

I now people who are very unhappy that I actually follow the 20% rule; this rule is only that much worse.

I think it's an appropriate restriction for those classes...and no, I'm not on drugs. :)

By the same token, I wouldn't have a problem with the gm relaxing the rule..but I still think it's a valid rule.

I'd say the rule is limiting, unnessecarily so. There are many concepts that can be done effectively with a Paladin or Monk (esp. monk) multiclass that almost can't be done, if you don't allow the multiclass by defualt.

I mean, I can understand the flavor justification for it (both classes are supposed to represent focus), but IMHO the benefits of eradicating that restriction would be MUCH, MUCH outweighing the benefits of keeping it (which kinda boils down to 'I'm focused!,' which you can do without the restriction).

Even though this ruling is totally retarded I will ignore it like I did with 3e and pray the rest of the 3.5 stuff will not suck nearly as bad.
