I went with high HD because I'm still thinking in terms of my "it's just a head" idea, which made me think of upgrade from lich to demilich.

I'm with Knight on this. I voted low for a single creature. But I've liked the idea of a swarm sice day one even if it can't be a Colossal swarm.
