Return of the Slavelords Part 3 “the Siege of Bright Tower”

Verrick Human Rogue/Wizard

Verrick turns to the sullen dwarf, "Let's gather some tools and try to look like we are doing something official and I'll try to rig some alchemist's fire." Moving out Verrick will be looking for lightly manned or particularly disinterested looking troops as they work their way around the machines. If it looks like any of the crews are really paying attention to him, he'll check the machines as best he can and try to look like he knows what he is doing.

"Meeb 'ope yer tonge continoos agile" says Norbac. "But leavin' 'eadbanger fire 'idden in da machinz iz danjerus if they kan find it. An actualey weeb kan chukk it ourselvz, so meeb don´t see da point. nstead, rig da machinz so they break apart at da furst shot, or nick a vitul piece from dim."

[That would be a Disable Device check, with a +5 DC for leaving no trace of it, IIRC]

Verrick

"Alright, I'll give it a shot, wisely, it does keep our options open to save the fire for later. The trick will be to get close enough and work unobserved."

Fiona

“We should seek a place where we can catch them somewhat unprepared and then strike hard and fast. I'm not sure, whether we can get far enough to attack the siege engines. Maybe, if we can contact those spies, they could provide us with some insight where to strike?”

Within the Enemy Camp

Verrick, Norbac and Braggi start moving around the siege engines, trying to looking “busy” while the do some sabotages.
(occ I’m going to say a Bluff vs. some random Sense Motives to see if anyone really takes notice of the group. Secretly of course…roll, roll /occ)
Most of the mercenaries more or less ignore them, although near one of the larger catapults, the dwarves manning it stare with a great deal of superstition at Braggi. The giants also look scornfully at anyone coming near their huge siege tower. There are two medium sized machines that they are able to focus their attention on where no one challenges them or really pays much attention to them. Verrick goes to work, concealing a number of Alchemist Fire to them where they should not be discovered…
(occ What ‘condition’ are you looking for to set these off? When someone tries to use them? In ten minutes? Etc. Making secret rolls again for two machines. IF you wish to do more then that, I will make new rolls. Right now, you are pretty sure no one is really paying attention to you, and that they are ‘hidden’ pretty well. You still have enough time, before nightfall to try one or two more engines. /occ)
The day is more then half over when their work on the two siege towers are done. Braggi notices that the dwarves are not letting anyone near their two catapults and that they have been drinking pretty heavy all day long… even for dwarves.

At the Werebear Camp

Rulf nods to the two’s suggestions replying “I not be sure if we all could get to close to the camp without detection. De goblins be a riding Warges, and those black hearted beasts have pretty good noses on them… now iffin’ it were just the two of yeas, and not that big ape of yers” he adds looking at Fiona with a slight grin “… well it might work. Especially iffin’ me and the lads were to cause a distraction. I do thing the siege craft be the most worrisome, but I no not how to communicate with de group that has infiltrated. Do either of ye have any magic that might a help? Me and the lads be warriors only…

Now iffin’ ye want we could try and ambush one of the Warge pickets… when they begin der attack this eve would be the best time, they will not be able to be a lookin’ every way at once as it were.

ooc: that would be when they are used for the first time, I think; if before, they´ll have still time to put the fires out or repair the machines. And I really believe we´re pushing our luck. Trithereon has the Luck domain IIRC, but we´re tempting him too much.

Verrick Human Rogue/Wizard

Verrick tries to set the machine traps to go off when the machine is used. He will be careful to do more or less legitimate checks of machines if he thinks there is any chance he has attracted attention. He would like to do a couple more if time permits. To his companinions he says, "We've done enough to slow them down a little. When the fight starts which machines and crews should we try to attack and how? I think we might do okay as hidden snipers. It will be hard to spot us even with darkvision if we attack from 100' or so with spells and missiles. Braggi, what do you and Norbac think?"

Fiona

“I could become a bird and look for them, maybe give them a written message and bring back their answer, but I could not talk to them. But they do not know us, maybe they are too suspicious to listen. Attacking the wargs, making them divide their attention and thereby weaken their defenses, will hopefully help the other group as well. We should do that!”

"Purson-alee, meeb was dinking more on addackin' dim in a more direct fashion" says Norbac. "Meeb´m nub onlee nub a snipa, afta awl meeb doubt they´ll ab so much trubble findin' us, weeb´ll definitelee cad their addenshun if weeb seem ter leave da camp, meeb´ve prayed fer mojo dat will 'elp us in meley, an weeb´ve fried biggur fishz dan dem scum."

"Let´s owevver move away from da machinz ya´ve rigged. Dat shud distract dim fer a while."

"Alright, a direct approach does play to your strengths and Braggi's as well. The question becomes which group do we attack? I can guess that Braggi will favor the dwarves, but the giant's tower worries me. We could start by all tossing alchemist's fire at it and go from there?"
