D&D 5E Return to The Temple of Elemental Evil - (full, at the moment)

Gwylla in terms of improvements is looking to get as many spells and rituals as possible, focusing on utility. As far as arcane tradition, diviner or transmuter is most likely, and I'm not super sold on any feats, so maybe ASIs at least at 4th and 8th level.

I was looking at the traditions and for this style of game I thought Abjuration might come in handy/be a good fit. Dispel magic and counterspell being very useful spells. And when you can project the ward - it may add in some great RP. Although any thing will fit (sep maybe necromancer don't see Gwylla going that direction).

Remember this is old school AD&D so there are plenty of scrolls to be found and a spellbook here and there. Some feats will Increase your ability and add to the character as well - Keen Mind for Gwylla seems fitting, we can even slow play it now for tidbits of information. (and the instinctual knowing which way is north is good underground).

sure thing, but you will perhaps be getting to new spells too

soon as we get a little RP out of the way

Haven't casted anything so we can tweak a bit before the real adventure begins.

Spar away you two and have fun.

Adjusting the lvl for the encounter is eazy peazy. And in tight corridors and rooms with a bunch of baddies I think combat style protection would go both a long way in mechanics and RP.

Which leads me to builds - anyone want to give the DM a heads up on their characters mechanics so I can add in some RP flavor to go with it?

Just saying I'm all alone... <sniff> in the dark, with no.... <sob> knowledge of what's to come, could someone please...<cringe> help me.

Hexiros will be going Battle Master. Not sure of the maneuvers I'll pick yet, but it'll be something fun I hope. Still haven't done all my fighter research yet.

I saw the calligraphy as your first artisan's tools and wondered if you are going for a samurai/zen RP style.

One ideal would be a self taught warrior who goes out to the waterfall grottos to meditate/pratice and another could be for him to find a master in a solitary dojo/tower somewhere near town.

Just thinking of ways you could RP gaining your abilities/enlightenment. You decide on what direction, I'll roll with it.

I'm kind of going for a mix of strength and beauty. He is obviously of monstrous origins, but there is still something innately striking about him. He appears as a savage, yet intriguing. His strong, powerful hands were made for his massive weapons, yet he still enjoys the intricate, artistic delicacy of the calligraphy. Through his poise and posture, he probably gives on an air of some nobility, though he is most definitely not nobility, and would never claim such. He is yin and yang, all wrapped up into one little blue ball of badass.

But no, no samurai. Not my cup of tea. At least not in the typical sense. Not much for the training in the dojos, but lots of self-teaching and practice is where he'll find most of his abilities. A waterfall grotto sounds blissful.

Sounds good we will pencil in a training grounds for Hexiros during the game that he can spend some downtime at.

Any thought to your additional artisan's tools you get at 3rd lvl? Blacksmithing for minor repairs? Cartography to go with the Calligraphy? Or painter kind of the same yet different, or cook's utensil's (back to the whole samurai's brewing tea thing).

Haven't really thought about it. Probably something like smith's tools or jeweler's tools... but I'll probably just wait and see where the campaign takes us and decide from there. I don't see him sitting down in the middle of a dungeon to paint a nice landscape, so that one's probably out. Cooking may not be bad.

Understood. I was hoping to take your build ideals and add in some RP to make them seem more sensible.

If you wanted Templeton to go Thief I was thinking of throwing in a treasure map or a NPC he needs an extra pair of hands to take down a score.

Assassin would lead to maybe a nemesis perhaps. Someone Templeton wants to kill so bad but always slips away. (The coward.)

Things like that. Nothing needed to be put in stone I can do both the above ideals and just leave the one hanging out to be done later in the adventure.
