Revamping Feat List

Thaniel

First Post
I got this idea from another thread.

I'm thinking of going through all my books (pretty much all the wotc non-adventure books except ghostwalk) and narrowing down the feat list. I was thinking of doing the following:
  1. Combine multiple similar feats into one (ex: Exotic mindblade feats, +2/+2 feats)
  2. Do away with [General] feats, replacing with [Fighter], [Rage], [Skill], [Magic], etc.

I was also toying with the idea of cramming the +2/+2 feats in with Skill Focus, making Skill Focus +3 to one skill or +2 to two skills.

Any suggestions on this?

If it really matters to you, go for it. In my mind, the damage is already done. Those feats should have been printed in the combined form, to provide space for other feats.

What I need is a listing of all the PHB2 feats.

If you really want to do something like that I'd recommend going to www.realmshelp.dandello.net/index.shtml
and use their feat list to help you out with your cross-referencing. They've got a complete listing of all the feats to date, including feats from Dragon (which you may not care about). They don't have as good a search function as some other sites, but I find having a master list of feat names really helpful.

I would suggest perusing a couple of sources: Grim Tales by BadAxe Games and Buy the Numbers.

Well, just in the PHB alone, I managed to narrow 109 to 79.

Question though:
There are multiple feats that a) negate AoO and b) give +4 to opposed checks. Improved Bull Rush, Improved Disarm, Improved Grapple, Improved Overrun, Improved Sunder, and Improved Trip. They all are identical in that regard. However, Improved Trip ALSO gives a bonus attack. What would be the harm in taking that bonus attack away from Improved Trip and cramming them all into one feat? Also, Improved Grapple gives you +4 on the opposed checks when on the receiving end of the grapple as well. I'd think that should go with all of them.

Focused Maneuver [FIGHTER]
You have trained yourself in a particular combat maneuver.
Prerequisite: Power Attack (for Bull Rush, Overrun, and Sunder), Combat Expertise (for Disarm and Trip), or Dex 13 and Improved Unarmed Strike (for Grapple).
Benefit:Choose one of the following combat maneuvers: Bull Rush, Disarm, Grapple, Overrun, Sunder, Trip. When performing that maneuver, you do not proved attacks of opportunity. Also, when on the offensive or defensive of that maneuver, you gain a +4 bonus to applicable opposed rolls.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a different maneuver.

cool, snagged FMG

After doing a few books, I've decided to drop the Feat Type mission and just go with combining redundant feats. I realize it doesn't help the overwhelming number of feats vs the 7 most characters ever get, but it'd be less to look through.

Just to give you a couple examples of what I've done:

Two-Weapon Fighting [FIGHTER]
You are skilled fighting with two weapons at once.
Prerequisites: Dex 15.
Benefit: When fighting with two weapons, reduce primary hand penalty by 2 and off-hand penalty by 6.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times, but the Dex prerequisite increased by 2 each time. Each feat after the first gives you an extra attack with an off-hand weapon in a full attack action. You may only make as many off-hand attacks as you have primary hand attacks, and the same iterative attack penalties (-5, -10, etc) apply to the corresponding off-hand attack.

Two-Weapon Defense [FIGHTER]
Your two-weapon fighting style bolsters your defense as well as your offense.
Prerequisites: Two-Weapon Fighting.
Benefit: When wielding a double weapon or two weapons (not including natural weapons or unarmed strikes), you gain a +1 shield bonus to your AC.
When you are fighting Defensively or using the total defense action, this shield bonus increases to +2.
Special: You may take this feat multiple times, though you can only take it as many times as you have taken the Two-Weapon Fighting feat. Its effects stack.

Armor Proficiency
You have learned how to use a type of armor.
Benefit: You are proficient with Light Armor. When wearing Light Armor, the armor check penalty for that armor applies only to Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Pick Pocket, and Tumble checks.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Each time, it applies to the next category of Armor (Medium, then Heavy).

Complete Divine introduced Spell Focus for the alignment subtypes, giving +1 to DC and not stackable with Spell Focus for schools, so I made this.

Spell Focus
Choose a school of magic (such as illusion or conjuration) or a spell descriptor (such as an alignment or energy type). Your spells of those types are more potent than normal.
Benefit: Add +1 to Difficulty Class for all saving throws against applicable spells you select.
Special: This feat can be taken twice. Its effects stack if used identically, or it can apply to another school or descriptor. Spell Focus (school) and Spell Focus (descriptor), however, do not stack with each other.
