Revenge of the Sith DVD on November 1st

This is a pretty good idea, not sure if saving "No, I am you father" is worth knowing how everything in the prequels turns out before hand though.
Hey, two points for getting Vader's quote right! You almost never see that. :) Anyway, Lucas had some pretty interesting comments about the end of ESB. He said if you watch them in the order they were made its a shocking, disturbing twist. If you watch them chronologically, its a moment of elation for the audience as now Luke finally knows what everyone else knows. I like shocking and disturbing, myself. ;)

This should be tested, too bad it be so hard to do.
Impossible, really, because no one can watch them fresh in multiple orders. We can only report how much we enjoyed the order we saw them in the first time. I saw them in the order they were made, and loved it that way. My wife saw them 4,5,1,2,3,6 and loved it that way. Now we just need someone to pipe in who saw them 1,2,3,4,5,6. But good luck finding that person.

*raises hand*

I have an uncle who had never seen the Star Wars movies. So around the time Episode III came out, we had him watch Episodes I and II on DVD, took him to see Episode III, and then watched the original trilogy on DVD. He loved it, and couldn't believe that he'd gone his whole life without seeing Star Wars. :)

Sweet! So which movies did he like the best? I think its interesting to see what people think who didn't have the expectations of the years between the trilogies. My wife likes ROTS the best, followed by TPM.

It sounds like my uncle and your wife have pretty much the same opinion. My uncle liked Revenge of the Sith the best, but he also really loved the Phantom Menace because he says that it's the movie that introduced him to the Star Wars series.

Interesting, DJ. So two adults who saw all six films within a few weeks of each other rate TPM pretty highly. I've found that my own appreciation for the film has increased significantly over the years, to the point where I now prefer it to AOTC. And I was happy to learn that the TPM Yoda puppet will indeed be replaced with CGI to better match Eps. II and III (its mentioned in the Making of ROTS book.)

I've never really had the hatred of TPM that many other Star Wars fans do. It's probably my least-favorite of the films, but I still think it's a pretty darn good movie. Not only does it have my favorite lightsaber duel of any of the films, but I also immensely enjoyed the pod race sequence, and TPM also had the whole "beginning of the saga" coolness factor going on. I've even found over the years that Jar Jar isn't half as irritating as some people make him out to be. The only parts of the movie that I really didn't care for were midichorians (I feel that they diminish the mysterious, metaphysical nature of the force and make it kinda Star Trekish) and the scene with 10-year-old Anakin flying into the Trade Federation Battleship and destroying it from within to save the day (I know he's supposed to be immsensely strong with the Force, but that's stretching it a bit).

Now, on to your other statement: puppet Yoda being replaced by CGI Yoda in the Phantom Menace? So does this mean that TPM is going to be re-released on DVD or in theaters at some point?

It's been pretty well ingrained since I someone pointed out once, on these very boards I believe. Not sure how well I remembered rpior to that though.

I would kill to get an mp3 of JEJ saying "No, Obi-wan killed your father."

True, but I was actually thinking of testing on people who hadn't seen them and judging their reactions, easy enough with kids or people in certain countries.

Interesting, also nice to see some evidence to support my belief that most of the whining about Ep1&2 is based in the individual and their expectations than the actual quality of the movies (which I would say is out of proportion, not completely out of line).

I still prefer Ep2 over Ep1, I think Anakin is portrayed properly so he doesn't annoy me, Jar-jar on the other hand simply can't be accounted for.

Oh thank god, that puppet was absolutely dreadful looking.

You didn't think there wouldn't be another dvd version did you?

A box set for the whole trilogy was anounced/mentioned here a while back, and considering George search for perfction it's not surprising, I'm hoping for the rest of the Dooku/Yoda fight.

I rather doubt another theatrical release, especially for tPM, there's just too much hate for it to make sense.

I've always believed that. The Phantom Menace was probably the single most highly-anticipated movie in history; for 15 years following the release of Return of the Jedi, SW fans were fantasizing about how Episode I was going to be just as revolutionary and earth-shattering as the original Star Wars was back in 1977. According to the fan community, it was going to have special effects more impressive than the Matrix, battle scenes to put Braveheart's to shame, Darth Maul was going to follow in Darth Vader's footsteps and become the next cinematic uber-villain, it was going to make more money than Titanic and become the highest grossing film ever, et cetera.

And, of course, when the movie fell short of these expectations, many fans reacted in a matter similar to somebody who just found out that everything they ever believed in was a lie, and unleashed impressive amounts of venom against the movie and Lucas himself for letting them down. Myself, I walked out of the movie feeling pretty happy, and actually ended up seeing it six more times before it left theaters (this was back before movies were released on DVD less than six months after premiering in theaters).
