Review of THE HERMIT Module

On that subject,

I am REALLY surprised, with all the people who said they were gonna buy it, etc, that nobody has yet posted a review here for NECROPOLIS.

Looks like I'm gonna have to review it myself if the masses keep quiet!

My hope in posting the URL for the review of THE HERMIT was to see about getting some feedback on how D20 buffs viewed the adventure. So far little luck in that regard, although it is a module that will take some fair bit of time to play through.

I suspect that is the same reason, only more so, in reagrds the much longer and far more demanding adventures found in NECROPOLIS, John. Quite likely the skilled veteran players daring the module are now in the throes of the derring do of the module and reports and reviews will be forthcoming in a month or two as they conclude play.

Cheerio,
Gary

The problem with Necropolis? There is no controversy. It is a good module - and that's it. You don't need to complain much... And the satisfied people are less likely to pound away on the keyboard.:D

Why Nobody Runs Necropolis

Nobody's reviewed Necropolis because nobody's run it. It's so deadly people are afraid they'll be branded as killer DMs if they did.:D

Whoa, Melan,

I didn't say there was a problem with either THE HERMIT or NECROPOLIS ;) What I noted was that both are rather extensive and those GMs running them, players in action therein, would need some time to complete them so as to be able to comment knowledgeably on them--as in writing a review.

Many a satisfied player certainly has opined on the merits of an adventure, no?

Cherio,
Gary

Too Dangerous...

Alan,

If I wrote a module based on Goldylocks & the Three Bears you'd likely be hesitant to have your PC adventure into the deep, dark woods, fear the porridge was poisoned, the chairs fatal traps, the beds ensorcelled, and the bears actually werebear-vampires....and for your character that would be the case!!!

Cheers mate,
Gary

d20 mechanics

Well Gary

All I can say is sometimes no feedback is good feedback - on the mechanics at least. We have had three local groups play it none have had but a few minor complaints.

Some people have voinced concern over the LA mechanics in it but not really - there are sooooo few that most people do not care.

I was wondering how the LA guys are taking it. I have not heard anything from that bunch.

I could also be that no one has had time to get to it. There are a lot of mods out there people are working through and it may be a while before they get to the Hermit.

Ohh how I envy Lodash.

Ohh how I want to be Lodash

I'm one of those people who don't like the LA in the book so it's on the bottom of my list to get right now.

I don't like dual statted books and since The Hermit is 'generic' fantasy if you will, it doesn't have the same allure as OA or L5R to me. If you want those settings and that material, you have to get dual statted books.

Hi Davis:)

Well, only a couple of comments that I know of were made about THE HERMIT by LA gamers. These were minor grouses about having some LA game material left out, but in all liking the adventure and not whining about the massive amount of D20 material getting in the way of their play...

This lack of commentary and review is the reason I have posted here, and elsewhere to elicit feedback. As a game designer I really like to have it so as to consider possible changes in future efforts so as to serve the gamers better.

rioght you are, certaily, about the number of adventures out, so that in addition to the module being a longish one to play through, there is the matter of it being in the waiting line--for purchase or for play. Actually a couple of persons have noted it is on their want lists, awaiting the wherewithal to purchase it ;)

As for Lodash, he ain't so lonely anymore is he?

Seeing as how you can't be him, how's about "the Twins" for company?

Heh,
Gary
