Revised Books: 320 Pages, $50 US? Um, Maybe $30...

I may buy them, I may not. Won't know until they come out, I hear opinions, read reviews, and look through them at the local shops.

I plan on buying them immediately. The only thing that's given me pause is that the revised books may eventually have further printings with corrected errata. I only want to buy the three new books once, and I want it to be the most correct versions...

I'm not encouraging piracy here, but reprinting books that have 75% content from the original and some unknown percentage of material found in the splat books...is the kind of thing that tempts otherwise lawful folks to download copies of these puppies for free.

However, thanks to the SRD being updated with all the additions, that won't be necessary. Right? Right? :D

I'm probably going to purchase them; I'll sit down in the middle of B&N and give them a good read over to make sure they are worth it and then wait a month to see how many people complain of errors, but eventually, I *probably* will purchase them.

Mayhap if I put it in bold, people will remember it...

The D20 System SRD will be updated on the day of the revised Core Books release!

Here's the thread where I originally posted this news:
Bill Slavicsek on the D&D revision and the SRD

I wonder who will produce the first .pdf or similar document that summarises the changes for quick download?

I'd almost bet on Wizards of the Coast...

Cheers!

There are worse things than getting a new set of the core D&D books...

Hmm, looking over my collection:

Eric Holmes Basic rulebook
Tom Moldvay Basic rulebook
Frank Mentzer Basic rulebook

AD&D 1E Player's Handbook (x2)
AD&D 1E DMG (x2)
AD&D 1E Monster Manual

AD&D 2E Player's Handbook
AD&D 2E DMG (x2)
AD&D 2E Monstrous manual
(and additional copies of each on CD-ROM)

Another copy of each of the revised 3E books would look quite nice on the shelf... as well as being par for the course. ;)

Though I won't strictly need them, having all the revised information in one place will be very nice, and will also help me introduce new players to the game.

Cheers!

You didn't get the Rules Encyclopedia (for Basic D&D)?

You're overall point is valid, many serious D&D-gamers have been buying new versions of the game for years. Having just bought into 3rd edition this year myself, it's a little fast to need to buy the new books. I'll probably wait a for a while.

One question I have. I have seen some references to "D&D 3.5e." Is that official or an unofficial title for the revised core books?

Semi-official. I've seen at least one important Wizards person use it on the WotC boards. (T'Ed Stark, here).

Personally, I tend to 3.2 (as about 20% is new/revised!)

Or 3.25 if it's 25% new and revised material. I forget which. :)

Oh yes... I forgot I also had the Rules Cyclopedia!

I also have an Expert set (not the original Cook version, alas!) but not the Companion or Master rules - too much playing of AD&D by that stage.

In truth, "3E" isn't the official title. The game is called "Dungeons and Dragons" in the books, with no mention of "3rd edition" or "3E" anywhere.

Cheers!
