Reviving Greyhawk: A letter-writing campaign.

Point 1- DL failed in 2E. No, really, it did. Does anyone remember... the SAGA System? AFAIK, DL, as a CS, flunked in the 2E days.

Point 2- DL has a huge pocketbook line, while GH doesn't.

Is that why they went to the Saga system? I never understood why they made that change, when they could've just kept putting out standard 2E books.

Thing is, while I've never actually read a Dragonlance book, from what I read in the Saga boxed set, I LIKED the setting. Just ... not with the Saga rules. :p

I actually liked the SAGA system

I also found the SAGA boxes to be much better products than any of the 2E products (TotL box was horribly put together). I prefer it to the new DLCS as well. It was fast paced system (that did have some bugs, but were fixed in later supplements) and packed alot of useful info into those little books.

Dragonlance has survived, I suppose because it has a strong novel fan-base which kept it going during "the dark years". Greyhawk has never had such a luxury.

I would pay $40 in a sec for a hard bound grayhawk book. I been playing in that world for a long long time and would like a up todate book with a good index and what not. It does not even need to be all that detailed... just good dense text.

In many ways, this reminds me of the Star Trek saga: A great t.v. show gets canceled prematurely and the underground fans spend the next ten years tending to its legacy through letter-writing and conventions, only to see it reborn in a slew of movies and multiple t.v. series. Consequently, Star Trek turns out to be the biggest t.v. franchise in history.

At the very least, it's worth a shot. Think of all the fun we have had with Greyhawk. Why waste our breath on inaction when so much more could be done? Even if this produces no more than a compilation for the LGJ or some new adventures, it's still better than what we have now, which is nothing.

I like this. I'll write a letter.

Lastly, it would be nice if we could hear more on this thread from the Living Campaign players, as their thoguhts on the living camapign are essential to this type of dialogue. If you play in the living camapign, perhaps you could log in and share some of your thoughts on the current incarantion of Greyhawk and what you'd like to see in the near future. Thanks.

Well I did chime in a while back. However about the only real comments I would be making about Living Greyhawk would be complaints about the circle, so I don't see me adding any utility to your cause.

I'm of the opinion that owing to the nature of LG, a big sourcebook detailing things would not be terribly useful. IMHO, only regions which aren't played in would need to be covered as the individual regions are currently writing the stories. even if you did incorporate all of the stuff from the different regions (a major chore methinks), it would still change shortly. My home region, the County of Urnst is undergoing some pretty drastic stuff at the moment, so any details found in a supplement written right now would be obsolete in very little time.

The Living Greyhawk Gazeteer does provide most of the stuff needed.

I suppose maybe some more crunchy bits might be nice. A Faith and Pantheons like thing with a better description of the religions might be nice, as would some regional feats (ala FRCS). However I don't see anything other than old history as being useful to a Living game. The suggestion about compiling the Living Greyhawk Journal sounds pretty good.

Of course the fact that the campaign (just the Circle, my triad is good) is getting close to pissing me off too much to play just about makes this all moot.

Here here!

As much as I like making stuff up about Oli, I'd sure like a little more to go on!

Does anyone know if there is a "proper" form of address in this type of letter writing? Anything that I MUST include? Anything I should say? I've never done letter writing in gaming, only to senators to try to save my job (ie: I work for an airline).
