Rewatching Bond films

I’m watching The Spy Who Loved Me right now. Better than Golden Gun, for sure.

I know I liked the comedy take on Bond when I was a kid, but Moore really isn’t for me as an adult. I just can’t believe him as a secret agent. And he’s not intimidating in any way. Every line is a quip. Every line!

Plus he’s the worst dressed Bond. And once he stops wearing the iconic Rolex Submariner, his watches are rubbish.

We did this last year, and made our way through most of the Sean Connery Bond movies. It was a lot of fun. I think Dr. No and From Russia with Love are the two I liked best watching at my age. We are going to start up again soon and I think we will skip to the Dalton Bonds then go back and watch some of the Moore stuff (Brosnan and Moore are not my favorites). I still need to show her Lazenby as well

I know I was complaining about Craig in the other thread, but I do think physique matters here. Neither Moore nor Brosnan seemed very convincing physically to me (maybe on rewatches I will feel differently). Craig and Connery are both physically convincing. And I think Dalton is as well (he he more lithe but still feels fit and strikes me as the most determined looking Bond: he is the most convincing behind the wheel of a car for me lol).

I have a soft spot for this one as it's literally the first movie I remember seeing at the cinema. To me the Lotus is the Bond car (I had the diecast toy of it) and a lot of the stunts and action sequences still stand up well. Plus not just one but two evil lairs!

But yeah, Moore's fighting scenes certainly aren't the best, and neither is his dialogue.

Yeah, I kinda put Moore into a category with the Brosnan Bond movies - very not serious, very quip / comedy heavy, very gadget heavy, the villains get less iconic, etc.

I do like more of the Moore Bond's than not despite all that: Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, Live and Let Die and oddly enough, Moonraker. Sure it's James Bond meets Star Wars. Sure it's the start of some of the really goofy comedy pratfalls. But I can't help liking it. Drax has such a dry wit. The action is pretty solid. The space station itself just works for me.

Let's get to the real debate

View to a Kill - Duran Duran
Nobody Does it Better - Carley Simon
Or
Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney and Wings

With a honorable mention for Tina Turner because we'll she is Tina Turner.
