Riddles - Protecting an important Relic - HELP!!??

id love to use some of these but since no one is posting answers, i guess i cant.

I have a chest on a pedistal that has the following written in common:

Do you have what it takes -
Or are you afraid?

New
Or old -
Tried and true.

Open and find out -
Peek inside.
Everyone has -
Now will you?

If they open it, the door on the far wall will lock and the chest contains brown mold.

The place isnt big at all. Some hallways and a couple of rooms. Its a tomb to a paladin of a small hamlet.

And i guess i should mention the god of protection is resembled by a cute blue cat with a ruby horn, named Carbuncle

I can recommend two books that have some decent riddles:

The Wastelands (towards the end of the book) and
Wizard and Glass (at the beginning).

They're both part of the Dark Tower series...good read BTW...and the parts of the books I'm talking about feature a riddling contest between the group of characters and a kind of futuristic train...trust me, it makes sense when you read it :D

A quick one from the books:

If you break me, I'll not stop working
If you can touch me, my work is done
If you lose me, you must find me with a ring soon after.
What am I?

The answer is....

The human heart.

There are three rooms. The enterance, the room before the tomb and then the tomb itself. im looking for something on the doors to prove people's worth.

I could post what i have about the tomb but im afraid it'd get moved to plots and places.

(blatantly stolen from a poem, mind you. not mine)

Our world has passed away
In wantonness o'erthrown.
There is nothing left today
But steel and fire and stone.

Though all we knew depart,
The old commandments stand:
"In courage keep your heart,
In strength lift up your hand."

Once more we hear the word
That sickened earth of old:
"No law except the sword
Unsheathed and uncontrolled,"

The trick is you have to be unarmed, with open hands, and somehow resistant to fear (aura of courage, calm emotions, remove fear, something that gives a bonus to mind-affecting magics or will saves) to pass. Failure to meet the criteria will result in a subdual glyph of warding being triggered, the subject being thrown back to the entrance, and flashing images of guardianship failing running thru their mind: the conquerer burning vilages while peasants flee; the king trying to protect his family, only to be put to the sword; a shadow growing across the sun; a man beaten unconscious while his wife is about to be raped, etc.

Zen Riddle

In rows and heaps,
the soft blossoms crowd
upon the icy terrace.
Several times have I summoned my boy
To sweep them away.
His efforts have had but small success,
For no sooner does the sunset
Carry them off
Than the bright moon,
Rising,
Gathers and brings them again.

Shadows?
