What game is this? Is there a link I can follow?

If I wanted you to follow a link I would have named it. ;)

Sorry, I know they are awful casual about breaking this rule at RPGnet, but I can't do it.

No, not Synibar, Senzar, or RIFTS.

Very interesting thread. I'm going to have to think about it first before I get this game....

Despite the poor system, I highly recommend the book based purely off of the setting information.

Basically:

Rifts, and the palladium system in general, have some absolutely awesome ideas. Just fantastic.

However that's really all they have - awesome ideas that tend to seem like they were just scrawled out in a train-of-thought and crammed into a book. Add some tangentially-related piccies and you're good. There's no hint of a system. There's no hint of anything unified or written for easy or enjoyable play. In short - if you can run rifts in an enjoyable way, then you could run the same game in any setting with any ruleset, and nothing more than the descriptions to guide you.

That's basically palladium games in a nutshell.

So - for me I don't think that picking up rifts ultimate edition would be worthwhile. In fact, don't bother getting the basic rule book at all. Pick up a couple of setting books and stick with them. Run them in some other system that will (guaranteed) run just as well, and most likely be quicker and simpler.

I don't know...the basic book has some nice overview stuff and lays a lot of the groundwork for what follows.

Of course...if you're JUST getting it for source material, save yourself some bucks and buy an older edition of the basic book out of someone's bargain bin for $4.

Oh, and I'll second that reccomendation for South America- there IS some nice bughunting stuff in there.

I can guess, but for your sanity, Psion, I'll leave it alone.

PS: It starts with an "F," right? ;)

Sigh...

I can see some will dig. And like Bruce Cordell's take on the far realms, mere knowledge of the thing helps advance it's creeping advance into the universe.

I don't want grandma to accidentally follow the link, but try googling, exactly:
"worst role-playing game ever made"

quotes included.

It's not on the top of the page, but there should be a review of it and you will know it.

OMG....

I'm only about 2% through the review and I'm aching with laughter and soaked with tears.

Apparently, this game is not very good.
