It's free DM real estate!Nice! Now if only they’d ramp up the body horror and have the illithid just force its tentacles out through its host’s skull instead of transforming the body into a wacky purple octopus-person. I suppose that’s probably darker than WotC wants to go with their product though.
Every update about this adventure is messing with my expectations regarding the tone of it. At first I was excited for a grim and frostbitten horror campaign set in the dark north of the world... now tbh I'm pretty excited for Gnome mind flayers that walk on their tentacles, and scrolls of Tarrasque summoning.
This opens the door for Kender Mindflayers.
I mean, it's Perkins. He does horror really well as long as you like your horror with moments of levity.Every update about this adventure is messing with my expectations regarding the tone of it. I’m eternally confused by people who “hate” fantasy races in general, and gnomes in particular. It just seems incredibly weird, to me.One of the characters in my 5e game HATES gnomes. If he learns there's Illithid Gnomes up in Icewind Dale....
I imagine genocide will ensue.

Dragonlance managed to make any race under 5 feet tall into ridiculous caricatures. He's hated gnomes ever since he read Dragonlance novels involving Tinker Gnomes.
Wait, is it the Character or player that hates gnomes? He's hated gnomes ever since he read Dragonlance novels involving Tinker Gnomes.

Well, you see, it is becomes gnomes are not only terrible and bad, they have no reason to exist. Someone wanted dwarves that were more elfish and someone else wanted elves that were more dwarfish and everyone forgot there were already halflings so we got saddled with gnomes as a PC race good for exactly nothing.I’m eternally confused by people who “hate” fantasy races in general, and gnomes in particular. Except punting. And squishing between the toes of ogres. And, apparently, turning into tiny vehicles of brain gobbling horror.
Don't forget the plague of rapier wielding Gnome Paladins.so we got saddled with gnomes as a PC race good for exactly nothing.
