Ring of Invisibility

Rule Question. I'm trying to understand the limitations of the magic item "Ring of Invisibility". According to the DMG (3rd Ed), I don't see a limit to the number of times you can turn invisible. It simply states that you "turn inivisible" according to the spell. So, does that mean one can turn invisible any number of times per day? Any feedback and/or clarificationwould be much appreciated.

Yes, you can turn invisible any number of times per day. Yes, this makes it quite a powerful item (hence the price). Note, however, that turning invisible is a standard action, so you can't do it and attack (say) in the same round. Thus if you use it in combat, your opponents will still have a chance to hit you before you can turn invisible again.

and it's NOT imp inv

Remember- it's not IMPROVED invisibility, so you'll pop back into the light any time you take a hostile action, just like the spell.

Don't know if I'd allow a ring of imp inv in my game. If I did, I'd make sure there were pleny of monsters with Scent, Blindsight & Tremorsense to keep things reasonable.

Be very careful of "metagaming". Remember, if your players are high enough level to possess enough wealth to actually own a Ring of Improved Invisibility (at least 56,000gp by the formula, but I'd charge somewhere around 90,000gp or more), it's not fair to "punish" them by refusing to allow them to occasionally gain the "upper hand" in a fight. I'm not saying this is the only way to gain the upper hand, but it's one that shouldn't be denied.

Being high level is pretty much the only way to own a Ring of Improved Invisibility, including all of the rest of their spiffy equipment. But more importantly, being high level means kicking a lot of butt. Why does it mean that? Simple. They've earned it. :)

And also remember, that against a flying, improved invisible archer with enough room to maneuver, there is almost no way to spot him, because of the range limits of these detection methods!

Improved Invisibility is extremely powerful! No kidding!
There are also numerous ways to counteract it, depending on the situation, but often there is almost no way around it!

I think they called it the One Ring.
I think a ring of Imp Invis is almost in the minor artifact range myself, but with detections and the like its not too big a deal at higher levels (unless you fight say giants or other non-casters alot).
