&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Anyone here play this game? If so, what do you think of it? :)

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Also, which of the 18 different nations in the game do you prefer to play as... and why?

P.S. = Does Rise of Nations sort of remind you of the boardgame History of the World (just curious)?

Urgh...

I spent 3 days downlaoding the demo (as i was hanging for this game for over a year) and when i loaded it it felt like a game that should of been released 3 years ago :(

This is a pale pale PALE imitation of Age of Empires/Age of Mythology...

AOM is the best game ive played in the past 3 years on the PC...

LOL! You should really give the game a chance since the mechanics are so much better than AoM. I sued to play AoM alot but after I got this game I won't. The graphics are not 3D but honestly the graphics in AOM were not that great looking to me.

It takes the age games to the levels they should be and the multiplayer is far better than AoM. For instance, I cannot play AOM over the net unless I connect to ESO and then usually there is some issue which results in my group having to reconnect several times. AoM goes out of sync alot.

Rise of Nations has only gone out of sync once on us and we can quickly connect over the net without use of game spy. It is a refreashing change.

Plus the cool part of the game is you have national borders which prevents cheese monkeys from building hill forts into your settlements.

Rise of Nations takes all the good aspects of RTS Age play and refines them to a point that makes the game a winner.

I've played the introduction game on the beta version (I play D&D with the producer). I liked it alot even though I don't generaly go for this type of game.

And yet, both RoN and AoE are developed/published by Microsoft. ;)

Looks ok, but I am currently still addicted to warcraft 3. It does look a lot like AoE, so I'm not too sure what the big deal is. I'll check it out in a few months maybe.

I have to chime in- I just got this game and I find myself liking it. I'm a fan of RTS, although not too good at them sometimes. I liked Warcraft 3 and the tweaks put on it and Age of mythology with its take on upgrades and heroes. The Civ series was always fun but the endgame always got a bit complicated and drawn out for my tastes.

Rise of Nations is very cool. The graphics at first may look a bit primitive since they arent truly 3d but the detail, animations, and the ability to zoom make it more than bearable.

But what I love is the strategy. The conguer the world main game plays out like a game of Risk, with simple moves made on a world map and then missions played out when you invade. And the missions in each map play out differently given the strength and power of the provinces current owner.

Whats more in the tactical missions, there isnt the same level of micromanaging in most RTSs. Your citizens can manage the homefront pretty well, leaving you to play general. And the game uses the concepts of national borders, military supply, and attrition in a great way to prevent the simple build and rush strategy of most games. Generals make a difference adding tactical options like forced amrch and entrenching to your units, which makes them useful to have around.

I heard the hype but I am pleasantly surprised. Rise is actually a nice real time and turn based hybrid.

But thats just my opinion.
