Rogue/Cleric optimization

roguerouge

First Post
A friend wants to check out what retooling her rogue 5/fighter 1 as a rogue/cleric would look like. Do you have any suggestions for resources? Do you have any hints for the build? Since it was a 32 point buy, she's got a 14 Wisdom to play with, luckily. Is it as simple as rogue 3/cleric x? Or are there good prestige classes to build towards?

At least Good I think.
Cleric/rogue was a favorite dual class for me before 3.x but I never found a really good prestige class in this new edition (not so new...).
May be you can create the divine trickster, same as the arcane but with d6 and some small differencies.

Yes, you must be LG. But I'm sure since she's retooling everything else I'm sure allignment wouldn't be a big deal =v).
Just make sure she keeps up with increasing her Wisdom to take advantage of higher level spells.

But if you want to head toward the non-good side, she could look at Black Flame Zealot.

Ur-Priest fits the character as one Rogue skill are needed to qualify for the Prestiege class like Bluff.

Cleric 3/Rogue1/Cleric 1/Ur Priest 1 is good.
Once you reach Ur-priest 3, you can cast 3rd level spells.
Drawback: feats needed aren't the best: Spell focus: evil, Iron Will.

I love to help with PC builds. Unfortunately, my books are in storage while I'm involved in a renovation. So, just going by memory...

The Kensai PrCl could be interesting, getting that boost to a favored weapon and that Str boost ability all coupled with sneak attack could result in a devastating foe of evil...

I believe there is a Feat or PrCl that lets a rogue use his sneak attack vs undead, which would let you do a quasi-Shadowbane type PC.

I have played Rogue 2/Cleric 3/Shadowbane Stalker X for a while and he was really good at solving various problems.

In combat, he was rather a caster than to be a warrior. Because his BAB was too low due to multiclassing and his Str and dex were also mediocre because he also needed descent Con (of course), descent Int (for skill points and for dealing with traps), & high Wis (spells).

Of course, he could use melee buff spells. But in most combats he fought, spending a turn for buffing himself was not a good idea.

He was a human with Able Learner and Jack of All Trades feats. And used Divine Insight (CD or SC) quite heavily. Because of this spell, he could deal with magical traps with really high DC, and when needed, he could make a check for any skills thanks to Jack of All Trades feat, with bonuses from Divine Insight.

Going evil alignment would be a nightmare at the table. That's not going to happen, I don't think. The other thing is that she's considering this move out of a desire to help out the lone cleric in a party of seven PCs. That and the fact that there's a scout and a ranger in addition to her rogue is what makes a niche hard. So spell-casting advancement and combat relevance are vital.
