The point is that these are all online, persistent games. There are no "cheat codes" for games like this. The occasional bug, yes... but exploiters usually get deleted entirely. Another example of a game like this are Diablo 2 (I've seen insane eBay auctions with bows going for $600).

For me, all the legalities of this quickly get very confusing. But I really don't see anything wrong with exchanging online items for money; if the other person is willing to pay and knows exactly what they are getting, they should be allowed to trade/pay/whatever for it.
